Re-introduction!

Welcome, and I love the picture of the Sheltie amidst his herd! Is it a safe assumption that your house was very, er, noisy, most of the time?!?

Paps are great but mine are not all easy going. They're very needy and clingy dogs and take up a ton of my time. My shelties were easier in that regard, they were much more capable of entertaining themselves. My youngest has some great agility lines (multiple MACH dogs and such). She's more than a handful to say the least! Easily the hardest dog I've owned, including our GSD and BCx. Not snuggly at all either. But she's great.

Two of my paps are easy going but the other three are much much more wired than my shelties were. I think it's like shelties though, some are pretty easy going and the others are absolutely crazy.

Actually they're all pretty quiet till the doorbell rings! The paps are much quieter than the shelties in general. One has only barked about 5 times in the 3 years we've had her.

.I wouldn't see a Border Collie being the best fit with silly Pap's, lol... I picture a BC being too serious and intense with these lil guys... lol
A friend of mine has that combo and the older Border Collie is obsessed with herding the little guys and the Paps hate her, hahaha and snap at the BC any chance they get ;)

Welcome back to the forum. I love the picture of your sheltie with the paps.

I love paps. There are 2 in my agility class right now. Litterbrothers- they got the one as a pup and rescued his brother a year later. Lovely dogs.

My obedience trainer has BC and paps. I don't know how many of each they have but atleast 4 BC and atleast that many paps. She says the paps rule the joint. I have been trying to get her to convert to shelties and she says if I ever get a biblack or biblue , she's in. She kept a bi blue BC from her last litter because she loves Ember so much so I getting closer.:wink2:

That sounds about right. Paps are nicknames 'Little Tyrant Dogs' for a reason. One of my friends has BCs and paps and I asked her what the main difference was and she said 'My border collies are nice.' That about sums up papillons pretty quickly.

I really would love a bi-black sheltie next. there is one in my agility class and he's just so stunning! I've always wanted a black and white pap too but never can find one. Almost all my dogs of any breed have been sable. I like sable too of course but I'd like something new.

I never thought I'd like a breed as much as I liked shelties until we got our first papillon. (It was not my idea at all, I wanted another sheltie). Since then I've had 7 papillons in a row. Might need to break the cycle soon.

Thank you for the pictures! The combo at my house is two Shelties and ONE Pap, who is definitely the alpha above the Shelties. I loved looking at the pictures of your non-black Papillons. They are beautiful. I do love their expressions.

Pierre is more of a snugglebug/housedog than an agility dog. It's not that he's not smart enough for it, but in the Florida heat, he wilts pretty fast. We go to an indoor facility, though, so maybe when I get some time (meaning after the baby comes and Duncan is 100% Flyball trained), I'll go back to agility. Just at home, I've gotten Pierre around a little course with a couple of jumps and a tunnel. Also, he's had some time to mature and settle into himself. I've never had (or possibly even met) a dog more stubborn! If he is not in the mood, nothing is happening.

Anyway, here are some reciprocal pictures of my black and white (full mask, full saddle) Papillon:

Ahhh I love him! I really love black and whites and paps with lots of color. Of course I have all these mostly white sable dogs. Lol oh well... one day.

They're funny dogs. I always try to compare them to my shelties and it's hard. My paps are just a touch evil. Mine aren't very stubborn but I notice they tend to get distracted a bit easier. One of my friends said they have the attention span of a gnat. That said, I actually find papillons easier to work with than shelties. Mia especially is easy to work with for ME. However, she walks all over everyone else I know. She's a complete brat.

When we had shelties we had a combo of 2 shelties and 4 papillons. It was kind of...crazy. :D

Loved the pictures! I have never known a Pap up close and personal. I take it they are not like Chihuahuas in temperament?

I do not find the two breeds to be very similar in temperament at all. But I've never owned a chi either so I don't really know what they're like. Chis have a terrierness to them. Paps are spaniels (with some spitz) so in my experience are a softer, more handler oriented dog. And I've never met a chi with the amount of energy my paps have.
