Red sheltie

I have several with Tall Timber lines. Around here (Kentucky), you'll find several kennels in Ohio who breed dogs going back to Tall Timber.

I haven't read this entire thread very closely but it caught my attention because Edan is a very deep reddish Mahogany Sable color that I just LOVE!

I found his Dam, Casia's A Stitch in Time (Emma), on the Pedigree site and took a look at her pedigree tree back only 6 generations: http://www.pedigreelines.com/dog/pedigree/id/13972. I also found his Sire, Damingo Colt Forty Five (Pistol): http://www.pedigreelines.com/dog/pedigree/id/21942

On his Sire's side, there are A LOT of Banchory Shelties as well as a number of Macdega.

His Dam's side seems to be more mixed: (From her Sire) some Macdega, some Fourwinds, some Benayr. (From her Dam a little of everything) Kelvington, Cindahope, Mainstay, and even Merlyn's Great Pumpkin shows up a few times - which explains where the color came from.

I really have no idea which "line" to say he comes from because it really is full of different lines.

Some breeders do more inbreeding than others, so you find that lines cross and cross back again.

Bacca's is 13.93%
Bacca's mom is 7.66%
Bacca's dad is 11.2%

Which tells me that by breeding Rayna and Alex, they wove the lines even closer. In Bacca's case there are several examples of the same ancestor on both his Mom's side and his Dad's side.

Edan's mom is 5.88%
Edan's dad is 5.73%

Which seems relatively low - and probably why you are not seeing alot of repeats

I don't know what a "safe" percentage is - I look to the breeders on the forum to jump in here!

Thoughts?

yeah, i am in KY too.
I guess that is why i am seeing so many tall timbers.
both of mine have loads and loads of tall timbers in the bloodline.
