Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I have a Sheltie she will be 16 in June, just became ill with vomiting. A few concerns I have, she has arthritis in back and spine and was on Deramax at 8.5 pounds they had her at 12.5 mg which I think was too high of course I didn't catch this until after about a year and 1/2 when she was recently dropped almost 2 pounds in 5 months! They have now pulled her off Deramax and gave me Tramadol to give her but was wondering about just baby aspirin instead? Although not sure how well the tummy would tolerate it at this point. Actually started her today on Low Fat cottage cheese and rice with some chicken broth. I am giving her 100 mgs of fluids at home each day. Hoping she can keep the food down!! Chicken and rice didn't agree with her system so the vet suggested the CC. Thanks for any information you can offer, she has been a wonderful dog I just would like to keep her as comfortable as possible until I know where we are going with this specific illness.
Thanks again, Cheryl

16 years is old for a sheltie! You are very blessed.

I really don't have alot of advice on dealing with your pups pain.At this age, it becomes difficult to know how much is too much pain for them to bear.

I've heard from various sources that Shelties have an immense pain tolerance and will hide pain that you don't eve know about. Just something to keep in mind as you think about your decisions going forward.

Hugs to you and your girl!

Welcome, wish it was a happier time for you. I don't have any advice, I will leave that to the experts. What I do have is a whole lot of hope for you and your sick sheltie.

Best,
Kate
