Resource Guarding

I hear ya. When we had Maggie and got Katie- she was so jealous and it upset me to see Maggie feel so dejected. She came around but they were never really great buddy's. She did look for her when Katie passed away.
Maggie loved Zak and tolerated things from him that she would not with Katie.

Zoey is over the top excited most of the time and I do think Zak misses his time with just me. We have had company so I was not able to get out and walk him so this week I plan to get out more with just him. But then to it is good for her to walk with him- a big circle. I miss my one on one time with Zak.

Give her some time to you alone. Bently too.

But honestly, the best thing that happened yesterday is that Enzo learned the trick to getting Bentley to play (biting his feet). They played non-stop yesterday and basically completely left Lexi alone. By the end of the evening she was trying to get in on it--like she felt left out!

That is great news!!! :biggrin2:

I prescribe... WINE
and lots of it

Lexi is not resource guarding, the behaviours you describe are figuring things out AND putting down and giving lip etc etc is because rude Enzo puppy has to learn some 'manners' He's an outgoing, busy pup who adores people, so he wants attention... I am sure Grizz and the other ladies at Blackmyst have rolled that boy a few times if needed, lol.

if she WAS truly resource guarding (like Spruce for example who charge attacks Whiskey but not Lilo, if the cats come back to bedroom at night, like a jerk! Will message you what I have been doing with success) Lexi seriously would NOT let Enzo play AT ALL with you! She'd snatch the toys and put the pup down with teeth, and not just watch!
She would push herself in between you and him, lots of body blocking and then snap at him for playing with you and get worse with attacking him for sure.

I like your prescription- might try it even though we aren't having any issues like that:winkgrin:

I hear where you are coming from. When I introduced Natalie, I really didn't have the time to make sure all was good between the dogs. I regret this. Just after I got Nat, I had her spayed - she developed pyo. Just a few weeks later, Liam had to have his major abdominal surgery. At the same time, I was working full time and also looking after my Dad who had rapidly failing health.

Liam and Natalie get along great. Liam and Emma get along great. Emma is very much a Mommy's girl. She has to be next to me in bed, on the couch. She will play with the others most times and Nat get the grumbling and chewing behaviour from Emma because she has gotten in her way and Emma thinks she needs to stop playing. Most times, I let them figure it out themselves. Nat just goes on her merry way. At night, Emma claims the spot right next to me on the bed. Natalie cannot come too close to her or Emma will give a low growl, I've seen the lip curl, or grumble away and get up and move. Emma gets told that Natalie can be near me and I have at times made Emma move.

Hang in there - it's early days. They are all trying to figure out the new order of things. There are times I regret adding two more to the house but I would not trade any of them.

How is Miss Lexi doing? Anymore progress?

I haven't seen her resource guard since I posted - yay! She is still a butthead and doesn't really play with Enzo. When she does play with him she bullies him by letting him take a couple steps the bowling him over.

She does play frisbee outside when he is out now so that's good. In the house is still a work in progress.

Zak and Zoey push each other to the ground all the time. Take a video of them would love to see if it is play. Maybe that was the advantage of an older puppy. Zak does not like to play frisbee with her, that was his game not her's.

They do this one thing out side that is so funny. They go out and do their potty on opposite sides of the yard then they do the long distance stare down, then Zoey run's and pounces like a cat onto Zak then the chase is on.

Lexi will get the hang of it when Enzo is bigger.
