Sadie is suddenly paralyzed

I think you will be a little more at ease once Sadie is home. I hope the vet can give you some more answers and a hopeful prognosis.

I'm sorry that you are going through so much right now. I hope you have a relaxing vacation and can rest your mind a little.

Anxious to hear how Sadie is doing. I've been checking in all day so I can just imagine how excited you are to see her. It's a strange feeling when one of them is gone. Each dog has it place and function in your home and you just feel that missing piece of the puzzle. I'm so sorry to hear about all of the additional stresses you are going through my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thanks for the prayer.

I just haven't had time to look after myself lately, between visiting my grandfather at the hospital out of time, trying to get help for a family member with a substance abuse problem, trying to be supportive to the rest of my family, helping DH apply for jobs and trying to get ready to leave for our vacation tomorrow. I've been battling a cold for weeks that keeps me up coughing all night and now I'm feeling worse.

I don't know how I'm going to get through today and tomorrow, I'm so completely exhausted.

I'm leaving work early to pick Sadie up. The vet tech I spoke to didn't have much to say so I'm hoping the vet will talk to me when I get there. She did say though that Sadie is doing a bit better this morning and that she's resting comfortably. Looking forward to seeing her, its just not the same without her.

I keep forgetting to mention Ginny. She's doing well but is kind of subdued for the most part. She's confused about where her sister is and knows we're upset. She was getting very cuddly with our friend's alpha dog last night, something she doesn't really do. I think she's just missing her Sadie. Ginny will be glad to see her too.

Mellissa,

I've only just managed to get to this thread.

You are going through a truly horrible time between Sadie and your other family issues. Sometimes it seems that its just too much to bear for one person to shoulder and to soldier on.

The one thing that I've learned about you since we've been on this forum together is that despite your tender years (i.e. compared to me!), you have developed a strong character that will see you through this. You have tremendous strength in you. Hug your loved ones everynight (physically or mentally) and remind yourself that tomorrow is another day. Hold onto yourself and you'll get through this, I promise.

Sometimes it seems like just too much for one person to bear, but I know you can get through this. And sometimes, you'll just want to curl up into a ball and stick a thumb in your mouth. That's ok too.

Hugs to Sadie, of course. Like with my Bacca last year, I hope that the prognosis turns out to be the best one.

Sending my best vibes to you and yours.

Barb - you have said so excellently what we all are thinking. Time is so short with all of our loved ones, dog and human. We think we will have them for many years. Have lost both a Sheltie and my mom in the last eight months or so, it is so true that we need to hug everyone and give them our love every day.

Melissa, my thoughts and prayers are going out to you right now with everything that you are going through, not just with Sadie. Some days, it is so difficult to get through. You have a positive attitude and a good spirit - even though there are days you probably sit and cry (we all do). Take the vacation you are planning and just relax as much as you can. Sometimes getting away is what matters the most. Enjoy the time with your family and just take care of yourself and husband and Sadie and Ginny.

I haven't been online for awhile and was so shocked and saddened to hear the news about your baby. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Just a quick update, I'm exhausted and still packing. I was going to wait tomorrow but don't want to keep anyone waiting.

Sadie is doing MUCH better than I'd anticipated, I guess the vet didn't want to get my hopes up.

Sadie is walking around, and with much more stability than I thought possible at this point. She's wobbly and one back leg doesn't work as well as the other, but she's walking and able to go potty on her own without too much difficulty.

I've bought some dog boots for the leg she drags a bit and to help her on smooth surfaces and they're working like a charm. She also doesn't have a problem with the brace I bought to hold up her back end when she gets tired. As soon as she realized what it did she accepted it and even purposely leaned on it.
We let her out to go potty tonight and she shocked us by happily trotting over to us with her tail wagging and a big sheltie smile on her face. Our jaws hit the ground.

I'm going to have to call the vet tomorrow, she's barking and howling to be let out of her crate, I don't know how I'm going to keep her in her crate for a week like she instructed (since we don't know for sure that its a blood clot, although its likely).

Tomorrow is going to be a long day, if I'm even well enough to go to work. DH is picking me up and we're leaving from there.

Guess this wasn't as short as I'd intended. I'm just so relieved that she's doing so well so quickly.

Thank you all for your kind words of wisdom and support. It means so much!

That sounds a LOT better from the other day. Unless I missed it somewhere (and I might have) wasn't this the first time she has went to the bathroom since being sick?

Gosh what a whirlwind of events. I just read all the posts. I am so sorry you have been going through all this but yet so relieved and happy to hear that there has been so much improvement. God Bless and my prayers are with your family and Sadie

This is such positive news. I glad she's bouncing back so quickly although I'm sure it seems like forever to you. I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing vacation and that Sadie continues to get better.
