Sadie is suddenly paralyzed

Wow what great progress she has made in such a short time. Sounds like your Chiro had some helpful advice and can't wait to hear what your vet says. I am so very happy for you and Sadie- so cool that she loves the swimming.

New supplements seem to already be working!

Well, I don't know if this is just a coincidence or not, but I've noticed a big difference in Sadie in the past 24 hours.

She seems to have MUCH more energy and is acting more like her old self. She seems VERY happy, up-beat and playful (with me anyway, not so much with Ginny yet.).

I thought it would be good to try and video her left paw occasionally dragging, so that I could document her progress. When I took Sadie out, she stopped dragging it completely!

We had so much fun in the pool last night. I threw the ball for her then I'd race her to get it. She's was so funny, swimming as fast as she could to beat me to it. I found out that Sadie cheats a little.

She didn't drag her paw on the way home either and seems to suddenly be having less trouble getting up stairs now.

The paw dragging and stairs were both things that I expected to get better slowly over a period of months, not over night. Such a mile stone makes me want to cry with relief.

I tried her on an exercise ball but didn't have a lot of success. I think its too much for her right now so I'll aim at working up to it. Being a highly ball motivated dog, she did desperately want to play with it though.

Sadie has a vet appointment tomorrow that I'm really looking forward to taking her to. I'll be bringing the supplements with me to see what she thinks of them. I love her dearly (she's a good friend) but my vet doesn't have a very open mind when it comes to natural treatments and supplements, so it should be interesting to see what she says.

More swimming videos coming soon!

Melissa, I'm so happy for all of you. It's great to see her progressing so rapidly.
Can't wait to see more swimming videos. Her and Ginny are so cute.

This is absolutely splendid news!!!!! Love the pics -- maybe mine would like swimming more with life vests...

That is really amazing progress. Well done. Take a hat off to yourself as well for putting in the extra work. I know with human stroke patients the physical therapy they get during the early period after the incident makes a huge difference to their overall functional recovery.

Re: Sadie's Recovery Process

I am so glad Sadie is doing so well. Also, it's great the neighbor's are letting Sadie use their pool. They are a part of Sadie's recovery. They must be wonderful folks. What a blessing.

Another Follow-up Vet Appointment

Another good vet appointment, she really didn't have too much to say except keep up the good work. She said she's pleased with Sadie's progress, that her reaction time in her back legs seem much faster and her tail tone seems better too.

While I was waiting I scratched Sadie's left ear (her sweet spot) and got her kicking her left back leg, which made me SO happy. She hasn't done this since her episode. She's also graduated to lifting her left back leg for belly rubs, also something she'd stopped doing.

Vet didn't say much about exercise, except that walking is ok. She seems to be letting me do what I feel is right, which is a relief. Keeping her quiet as the vet requested just wasn't working for Sadie.

I mentioned Sadie's lack of coat, which the vet said is mainly from the prednisone as well as from the stress she was under. She's a good weight but looks so skinny due to her long and lanky build.

I'm going to try and take her for slightly longer, daily walks in addition to her daily swims and see how she does. I'm also still looking into seeing a specialist for rehab tips, just to ease my mind.

The vet also didn't have much to say about the supplements, except that she thinks its the fish oil that made such a sudden improvement in Sadie. She said that glucosamine takes much longer (more like a month).

I know I keep promising, but I WILL post swimming videos soon! Today or tomorrow! I swear!
