And I do mean "saw" not "in". lol. I've always wanted to watch a more higher level agility competition. USDAA was about 45 miles away from my house this weekend, so off I went.
I have to say, it's amazing. My instructor gave me Greg Derrett's videos to watch. And all I can say is, "great dog, shame about the handler". I alwasy thought agility was more about training the dog, but I'm beginning to see how much you need to know about your dogs ability, to be a great handler. So many of them, during the Grand Prix, weren't giving their dogs any commands to hit an object, or to take the teeter when the tunnel was in front of them after a jump. ie. they'd wait until the dog was over the bar, on the ground, before giving them the command for the teeter, as the dog was in its way to the tunnel. It's amazing, how things like that, can really throw you off.
Disclaimer: not saying I'd do any better, but this helps me see how much I need to pay attention to my dog AND myself, versus just hoping my dog will do what I want when I want. kwim?
It was a great day. I can't wait to compete. I'm sure I"ll be a mess, but as long as Koji has fun, I can deal with my craziness. LOL.
I forgot to add this part....
At one point, a woman came up to us and started talking about Koji. She had one of her Shelties with her. I asked how many she had. She had 4. LOL. She asked me where I got him, I told her Daval. She said at one time, Daval had the top Sheltie in the country in agility. Her name was Peppermint Patty. Let's hope Koji got some of that. It just made me feel good that 1. someone knew Daval and 2. Daval had the top agility dog. (she said this was awhile back, so I have no clue when). I think I'll email my breeder. She'll be happy to hear about her pups.
