Scared rescue

LOTS of love
LOTS of patience

Jack bit me 4 times our 1st month together (we had had Shelties in the house for 10 years & never a bite) & it's still very rare that I can walk up to him & pet him or pick him up outside. We've had him a little over a year.

Lots of love
lots of patience

but it's worth it;

Jack went from this;

in about 6 months -good luck to you & your pack.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. I love the "after" photo!

I still deal with socialization issues with my one, Belle, long term puppy mill dog. As you know… so much work. She will make it… just a work in progress. God bless you for giving Lady her second chance. Many would have turned and walked away from a pup like this, but that’s not what rescue is all about. Lady will touch your heart and you two will look back on these days of learning, and you will smile knowing the great things you two have accomplished, together. The rescues I have had have touched my very soul…. Lots of love and lots of patience, they will reward you.

I also have a new addition to my flock... her name is Lady too.

It's been 6 months since Tin came here. While he is certainly not the shell he was when he first arrived, he still has issues that we are working on. I figure it took years to make him what he was and so it's going to take a far bit to get him as close to 100% as he is capable of being. When I get to plateaus with him I just go back and read his journey. It reminds me of how far he has come. He definately has wormed his way into a special place in my heart.

Ain't THAT the truth!!!!!!

By the way, my Bela's original name was Lady, too. She's now officially Lady Bela. New life, new name!

Yes, I remember the frightened dog that I brought home. His name was bodacious. It was a pouring down raining night and even thought I brought him out for a walk prior to bringing him inside he still peed inside. he was so scare. I set about cleaning the mess and Beau sat in the corner. I think he thought I was going to hit him because he came up beside me and I gently let him know "Momma isn't going to hit you because you peed." "momma knows your scared." Beau gave me a kiss on the nose and sat back down in the corner. I sat down on the floor and let him come up to me as often or as little as he felt comfortable. He would stick his little nose in my armpit and I would rub his belly and tell him " Beau Momma his not going to hurt you, and Momma is not going to let anyone else hurt you."

We would go out side for walks and he would be afraid of every thing People, dogs, cars, trucks. His tail was down and under. My Beau didn't bark.

Fast forward a two and half years Beau' not afraid of anyone anymore. he's the charmer of the neighborhood. He has lady friends and guy friends a like. He's afraid of dogs, but is really not reactive. In other words I can walk past other dogs and he won't bark or growl. And best of all he will now bark. But, he does so appropriately. He lets me know when people are in the hallway, yet, once he knows the person footsteps he won't bark at all

He has turned out to be quite the charmer, he's a wooer.. He can woo and charm anyone. And I let him. because I'm the first one he woo' in the morning and the last one he' woo' at night.
