Sebaceous Cyst

Hopefully it heals ASAP. Darn don't you wonder how they get those. All good thoughts coming.

Update: Vet Visit

Hi Everyone, Thank you for all the well wishes, that is very sweet of all of you :)

So...we walk into the vet with both of our shelties, since they always go everywhere together and the vet picks them up and hugs them and says "I just love dogs with skinny noises!" She is so wonderful.

She said that she doesn't recommend the cyst being surgically removed because she would have to take a large amount of skin (about the size of your open palm on her back hip/butt area about 6" diameter). Which is very drastic. She took Fin in the back room and extracted more of the nasty stuff, cleaned it up and said the hole is about as deep as your fingertip to the first knuckle (3/4"). She gave us some medicine which is a bacterial/pain reliever ointment and told us that when we notice the cyst getting larger to use the warm compress to extract it and it could possible over time (couple years) go away.

Then she gave them both another hug and said "I am glad this is all you came in for" and sent us on our way.

Wow, nice vet! Ours is very nice but he's never hugged our animals! I am glad that she was able to clean up the area and give her something for it. That is sure a big, deep wound! I sure hope it heals quickly for her and does eventually go away completely.

Wow! That's quite a wound. Just how big is this cyst? I hope he's feeling better with the extraction of fluid. When these cysts are full they can be quite painful. Keep us posted on his progress.

You vet sounds wonderful!

Good news

Glovin,

Seems that you have a good logical vet there. Good news that your baby will be just fine. As I said O'Keeffe lived with the cyst on her tail. It did get smaller over time.

Thanks for the update, hugs to you and your kids,

Best,
Kate
