This thread is old, and I sure did miss it. Interesting to read since Lucky and Lil' Lady are my first shelties. Lucky will be 12 this year, and he is really spunky for his age. He just amazes me. Lady will be 8, she is doing great too.
I feel like I hit the jackpot with both of them.

Kidney failure
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and wanted to comment on my experience dealing with kidney failure in dogs. Our dog Trixie was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure on September 6, 2012. Our vet gave her 2-3 weeks to live. The vet sent us home and said to enjoy the last few days or weeks with her. We were devastated, but not willing to accept it. We went to a second vet and heard the same thing. Still not willing to accept it we took her to a third vet and this time we found a knowledgeable and caring vet that was willing to work with us to give Trixie the best quality of life for however long she lived. I've learned that many vets just don't have the experience dealing with kidney failure. Also, after searching the internet we found a yahoo group called K9Kidneys. What a godsend! This group is made up of thousands of individuals all over the world dealing with kidney failure in their dogs and is run by several knowledgeable moderators. They were able to make excellent suggestions that was extremely beneficial. I would HIGHLY recommend this group if your dog is going thru this terrible disease. Trixie passed away March 9,2012 at the age of 8yrs 8 mo. She lived another 6 quaility months after her diagnosis. We miss her dearly, but are very greatfull for the extra time we had with her. well my old guy Leo ...I would put up a pic but I don't know how
he is 18 years old he cant hear or see to well but he move like he's 10yr everyone thinks h.e's young.

hi guys well my Leo is 18 as on april and he's half blind and pretty much def we use hand movement big wide hand movment..lol..when we want him,anyway he does not act like he's 18 nose is still good he has parkens(sorry can't spell) lol poor guy shakes other then that he's good I have been lucky he never needs to go to vet for any thing bad

WOW 18 is amazing! We lost our Sara at 17 in Nov. I feel so blessed to have had her in my life for so long. She was really in great health up to the end but the last year her joints just gave out. I still miss her terribly. We now have 2 boys Toby & Zack that we adopted through rescue, I only hope they live as long and are as healthy as Sara was.
