Shelties moving things around the house..

Yes. Brodie used to get the cat food cans out of the trash and line them up down the hallway. But he licked them clean first. One day we noticed Clara and Tara running back and forth across the dining room. But they were running and jumping at the dog food can to move it next to a chair so they could get onto the bar to get to the food there. They don't move things just to move them.

Mom's dog Stewart used to line up all of his toys so he could watch them.

And Tara chooses a different toy to sleep with every night.

Ball hoarding

My Cooper who is 8 months old has a game he plays in which he pushes the small tennis balls under coffee tables, couches, beds, etc. After he gets all of them (usually 5-6) under there he stands and barks until someone gets them out. This usually rquires getting down on hands and knees to get them. He then repeats this over and over again. If there isn't a couch or coffee table he'll bring it to me, but he just seems to really enjoy this "hide and seek" game. Anyone else experiencing this??? :confused2:

This is by far the most interesting story I've ever heard of dog behaviour. I think they could make a TV show out of your dog, if you could only catch in video.

In human terms, you might call this kind of compulsive (yet intelligent) behaviour as "Autistic Savant" (in old lingo, that would be "idiot savant")

There a number of studies that actually equate the extra sensory perception of dogs to autistic savant. I won't go into detail here, but its a fascinating read. You need to google it.

If you remember the movie Rainman, with Dustin Hoffman, your dog exhibits some remarkably similar practices.

I find your story fascinating. If I were you, I would continue to document this behaviour. It actually could have scientific relevance! Truly !

Honey's balls all end up under the couch, but she doesn't put them there deliberately! She does however love to play a game where I put her balls just far enough under the couch that she has to work in order to get them out, using paws and nose to hit it in the right direction. She'll repeat this for about fifteen minutes before getting bored.

Than the other day she dropped her ball into the laundry basket, and laid down and started using her tongue through the holes to move it around the perimeter! She seemed very amused by it!

How very funny! Your Cooper is a very smart puppy. Be proud of him.
