Toffee walks with me everytime I get up or walk somewhere, but if he can watch me from the bed prefereably he is very happy. He sleeps, but he is not a couch potato.. I wish he was, lol
But as he is getting on to almost two years he is sleeping way more in between fits of furious activity, trying to get me to play,train or tug with him

Looks like ours aren't the only couch potatoes. I recall reading somewhere that Shelties will adapt to their homelife. so if it's slow, they're slow. Come now, I'm not dead. hehehe.

Miko tends to follow us around, so I know he doesn't get a lot of sleep. I'm also noticing he doesn't sleep through the night, he moves constantly. My DH says more than me. hehehe. To the point where DH isn't getting any sleep.

Koji on the other hand, could careless when we move around (in bed, walking, etc) and just sleeps through it all. Since he's now allowed on the bed, he'll go in there if he's really tired.

I feel like his sleepiness kinda just happened, so I'm almost to the point of worrying and making a vet appt. At what point do you call the vet? I also don't know if he's more tired because DH is home all day with him, versus we'd just come home at lunch and he'd be crated (so maybe he didn't sleep as much then)? I'm concerned.

I guess we really do have Shetland Sleepdogs, huh? And Koji isn't alone.

I feel like his sleepiness kinda just happened, so I'm almost to the point of worrying and making a vet appt. At what point do you call the vet? I also don't know if he's more tired because DH is home all day with him, versus we'd just come home at lunch and he'd be crated (so maybe he didn't sleep as much then)? I'm concerned.

I actually posted this thread because sometimes I get worried that he's too sleepy. I wanted to see if others had dogs that did the same. Most of the time when we get up, Bentley will get up with us (at least if we change rooms). He also isn't really sleeping, just dozing.

I think one good sign is that when we are active (running around outside, doing agility) he's fine and shows no signs of sluggishness. Also, if he hears another dog on the TV he wakes up from his slumber is raring to go.

But, I did wonder if his extreme sleepy ways were out of the ordinary. We say he's king of the loungers

Yeah, see. Koji is active when he needs to be. He can still go a day at daycare, do agility and still be a pita. But when he's asleep, he's out sometimes. He MAY open his eyes (but not move). Sometimes he won't even move. He doesnt' care if we leave the room or not, however, I think this has more to do with his personality (I mean, he does go into our bedroom alone to go to bed). Versus Miko who follows us around regardless.

I think that's one reason I'm not calling the vet. Because we did 3 days of trialing, hello, that is crazy busy. He was up almost the entire time. Out cold at night (heck, so was I). But he bounced back by Thursday (to his normal sleepy schedule). I'm assuming he's fine. But y'know, I worry.

The SECOND we got into the car to go home, she layed completely on her side and shut her eyes and was completely coma-like. I just was horrified!! I kept saying to my husband, "What's wrong? What's wrong? WHAT'S WRONG?!?" And he said, "She's a baby. She's played for hours. She's tired!" Oh.

The sheltie motto should be "play hard, sleep hard"

This was Diva's wed 1hr Open obedience class and 1.5 hours bouncing up and down in her kennel while I working the other dogs, 30 hour ride in car passed out cold. 1 hr playing fetch at full speed in the backyard. 1 hr Power nap. 30 minutes romping(wrestling and full speed running) in the backyard with Justice and Ember. 45 mins nap in car to agility. 1 hr class running like a manic in short bursts, 15 min power nap to Rachel's house. 1 hour running full out with Grizz and Pike. Bedtime. I call it circuit training.

One thing I do like about shelties, they adapt to what is going on, they can lay down at your feet and chill and be ready to go when you are. Unlike some sporting breeds *cough* Labs. That bounce off the walls if they need exercise and you might as well exercise them because you'll get nothing done until you do.
