Shirah has found a forever home! This was about a month ago. I am terrible at updating things.

Anyway, prior to that we had taken her for her blood tests and all and they were coming up great. She is still recovering slowly but she's very well on the route to recovery! The most worrying thing, her red blood count, had gone from single digit when she was first rescued to over 30%! WOOT! She was also about 9kg when she left us.

Her new family lives on a landed property, a bungalow with some land around it. And they have 2 other dogs! One was a lab that had followed its faster from Indonesia and the other is a stray adopted from our SPCA. The guy had moved from Indonesia to Singapore for work and has been here 2 years now. The fact he took his lab with him is good as it shows if he relocates, he'll take his dogs with him! His wife just loooves dogs :) Shirah has happily settled into her new home. My mother has been driving past Shirah's new home to say hi. I think she misses the sweet girl. We're very happy for Shirah!!

In related, not-so-good news, Shiroh, the kennel mate of Shirah at the puppy mill, went to a foster home (a friend's) but his health had deteriorated badly and despite 2 blood transfusions, he sadly passed on. :( Rest in peace Shiroh, you will be remembered and missed. Sigh. The sad fate of some of the puppy mill dogs.

Also, I was doing some "undercover" work and met a (small scale) puppy mill breeder who is a lawyer by day. She runs it with her husband and paints herself as an angel and says she rescued the dogs she has in the kennels from the streets and from friends who abandoned their dogs. *ROLLS EYES* (I had to talk to her and try to be friendly - nauseating!) And she claims she doesn't breed them but all the females have long saggy breasts (many with large growths on the nipples) and their vajayjay is facing the back (not below where it normally sits). She breeds shelties amongst other breeds and I know of someone who had bought a sheltie pup from her before. There is a small sheltie girl in there, not yet 2 years old and limping and SO AFRAID when she is picked up by the husband, her tail is tucked right in and flicking very quickly. They weren't skinny but most of the dogs had diarrhea and one was bleeding at the nails. They had bugs on them. ARGH. It really pisses me off seeing them in such horrible conditions. We have video of the place but the authorities consistently turn a blind eye.

I'm happy Shirah is doing well in her new home. It's so sad that Shiroh did not have the same positive outcome. I just wish puppymills would disappear from the face of the earth.

As far as the attorney with the puppymill,I don't know how things are over there but in my area she could get away with a lot without any repercussions. She is an attorney after all and part of the law enforcement "club". It's not right but that's the way it is but maybe it's different where you are. I admire you in your ability to be pleasant. I'm not sure I could have done it.

Glad to hear that Shirah has improved and has her forever home. Its always sad to hear about the pups that are too far gone and cannot be saved. Hopefully he knew some love before going to the Rainbow Bridge.
