Silence - please

As much as I love the pups I really need a rest. They have been stir crazy all week and I have been unwell.

This morning we were walking to nearby hose paddocks across a road. Tully started barking before we even got to the road, I managed to quieten her but then she starts going silly halfway across and then Deska starts spinning.

I got soooo mad - it is cold, drizzling, I have had a migraine for over a week. So without a word we marched home. I ignored them, the pups were dead quiet. The cat decided she wanted a walk so I collared them all - again not a peep on our walk and Deska stayed pinned to my side. Since getting home they have stayed on the couch and it is still wonderfully quiet 5hrs later! Now I often say the silent treatment is a form of torture for a sheltie, but I thoroughly recommend it for peace of mind!

Any other ideas for some quiet times with a couple of crazy shelties - esp ones that dont involve food?
 
Caro: I'm sorry to hear that you are still having those horrible migraines. I had 5 shelties when my migraines were at their worst and I know how awful that can be. The good thing is that the shelties picked up on what was bothering you. Teach them the word "Quiet" and give them low calorie treats every once in a while and say "Good Quiet" while they are being quiet. It didn't take long for my shelties to learn that "Quiet" was a good thing. I'll be praying for you, that your migraines will go away.
 
Sounds like you did exactly what my trainer would have done, they didn't listen to you so you cut the walk short and they got the message.
