Singapore Sheltie!

HELLO FROM SINGAPORE!

I've got a now 6 month old male Sheltie, Romeo Sangiovese. Born 23 March 2008 in Australia, I've had him since he was 3 months.

I bought him at a petstore. I wasn't looking to get a pup (mostly because my parents wouldn't let me). I had a Sheltie before but he passed away at 16 years of age 2 years ago. I went in to the petstore to get some things for my mice one Thursday after work but I felt very excited and found my heart beating fast which was strange coz I'd gone there many times before.

Then I made my rounds to say hi to the pups on sale, and I saw him. Sitting quietly in his little cubicle. Cute as heck and looking so much like my previous Sheltie it was uncanny. His 4 paws and tail looked like they were dipped in milk. I took my phone and snapped a picture (tho' it was not allowed!) and ran home after staring and talking to him through the glass for like half an hour. The next day after work, I went and bought him. My parents went down on Friday afternoon to see him after looking at the picture on my phone and my mum practically threatened the sales person not to sell the pup before calling her and letting her know.

He's the love of my life (my boyfriend is not happy). He loves grass and socks and playing fetch, he enjoys watching and barking at my mice, he loves sleeping next to this big toy dog from Ikea during the day. He hates it when I tell him to roll over (he knows the command). He'll bark then wait staring at me, hoping I forgot that he had to roll over, then unwillingly do a half-rollover when I repeat the command. When I ask him to go to sleep at night after a session of play in the bedroom, he'll crawl into the cage and lie down with a huff. I love that he follows me around and when we lie down on the floor in the morning right after waking up and I rub his belly and give him a massage, our quiet bonding moment at the start of every day. I miss his smell when I'm not at home and can't wait to see him after a long day at work!

He's had pneumonia (at 3 and a half months) - easily the most painful week for me! I wanted to cry when I saw the xray of his fluid filled lungs but instead, channelled my energy
into looking after him. I bought humidifiers, took leave from work, stayed by his side with my computer to keep him company, patted his chest whenever he coughed, didn't sleep much because I would wake every time I heard Him stir at night, and also when it was quiet because I was afraid something might have happened. He stopped coughing in a week and was back to normal! I installed a webcam at home just so I can watch him while at work!

He's on half Canidae All Life Stages and half home cooked food now, supplemented with The Missing Link. He had diarrhea on Wellness Puppy. With the change in formula in Canidae I might transition him completely to home cooked food (lamb, potatoes, barley, broccoli, cauliflower, tuna, carrots mostly), but am worried he's not going to get all the vitamins and minerals he needs!

He's graduated from puppy kindergarten and now taking obedience classes using the clicker. He's a smart pup, but noisy, and loves to hump his classmates (it gets embarassing really).

I love my little Romeo to bits despite all his funny little quirks! :o

Welcome Singapore Sheltie !!

Wow , all the way from Singapore !! Welcome and welcome to being owned by Romeo. Glad he's feeling better. I hate when animals and kids get ill. I'd rather be sick then to have them ill. I hope you enjoy the forums and welcome again glad to have you as a member.

Welcome to you and Romeo! What a great story...he was so lucky to have found you. He is such a cutie and the pictures are adorable! Enjoy the forum; we're glad to have you! :smile2:

Welcome to the forum! Romeo is beautiful!

Sangiovese (Angie for short) is actually the name that our breeder picked out for my girl Sadie. Although it was a beautiful name we didn't feel it suited her and changed it.

Yep, you have all the signs. It's Sheltie-love, and it's incurable!! Welcome. I was in Singapore abouot three years ago -- it's beautiful!

Thanks everyone for the amazing!! I have learnt so much going through the old threads!

For me, the name Sangiovese actually came from an Italian wine! I would have named my son that, but Romeo came first! :biggrin2:

If you're down in Singapore again, let me know! We've got a pretty active Sheltie group that meets just about every weekend!
