size question

Shhhhh don't let Kelly know I posted this. The breeder is PaRay, and he posted one of the best interviews on Everything Sheltie.com, where shelties are sold.

I go and peek, not buying right now, but I like to read the interviews, and see what their vision of a sheltie is. PaRay really did an excellent interview and wasn't afraid to say what his thoughts were.
 
I go to that site all the time...love looking but they never have any from Florida or Ga. I will have to go read that interview. Thanks, I won't tell Kelly

At 17 weeks Callan weighed at the vet today at 11.7 pounds. I tried to get him to stand still long enough for me to get a height measurement. Best I can figure is about 11.5 inches maybe a smidge more

I think that puts him just on the high size of average, but not oversize.

Good! I was hoping that he might be on the smaller a size. Bacca was a really big boy. And Indy is just plain fat!

And on that note, he also told me that Callan is feeling a little pudgy, but also said he could be getting ready for a growth spurt I'm pretty sure I'm not over feeding him, but will pay close attention to his diet. As far as the dog food calculator goes, I may be over feeding by about the equivalent of 1/8 cup with treats.

Will cut this back....and within a few weeks I'll be going from 3 times feeding to 2 times per day.

11.5" is on the small side for 17 weeks- around 13.5-14"

Celtic was 14 weeks yesterday and 11 1/4" puts him smack in the middle of the chart. I am guessing 15"

I can see your logic. The difficulty is doing a proper height measurement with a squirmy dog with no wicket. I might be off by a half inch or more. But his weight puts him on the high side of average....which means I'm going to need to watch that. One tubby Sheltie is one too many.

Speaking if which....time for Indy's walk....work it off fatso! Lol
