Smiling Summer Shelties

Amazing photo Ann!

How many takes and cookies? Your girls pose better for pics than my kids ever did! Still can't get everyone looking/smiling...

Everyone but Misty looks totally related - Misty's muzzle is just a tad different shaped than the others. All stunning! So glad Flurry finally got a playmate!!!! Someday my boys will have to meet up with your girls - Deacon would probably pass out - he's so frightened of dogs!

No cookies until we're done and about 10 minutes. The secret is to be wicked fast once they're in position. The challenge is getting them there. There's always one recalcitrant. This time it was Flurry. I could NOT keep her in place. I swear they designate one rogue every time! This shot probably took me about 15 takes. I just keep shooting and hope for one keeper! :fl

I don't groom them all in one day...I'd fall over! I'll brush, shed and trim maybe two in a day, but they all get brushed once a week. Baths are one a day, my back can't take more than that. They get trimmed and shed before baths. So this pic was the culmination of Bath and Brush Week!

No kidding! When we do all 3 dogs in one day (like after a trip to the beach) it's a chore. And Meadow doesn't even have her full coat yet, she's easy. Thank GOD for the booster bath or we'd be toast. And we finally got smart and put them up on our hot tub cover to brush them, what a back saver.

I've been lucky to never have a problem, although I've heard stories of people with girls that just couldn't get along and even fought to the point where one had to be rehomed. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that except for Sprite, mine are all from the same line so indirectly related. There's always some posturing when a new one arrives, and Sprite lets them know right away that she is the alpha which is a hoot since she's the smallest. But she is, after all, Bossypaws. Checkers and Lacey, the matriarchs, just ignore her and she's smart enough not to bother them but she rules the others with an iron paw.

They tend to form play alliances with each other...Sprite and Ruffles play, and Flurry and Misty play. So that works out well especially because they've picked playmates who have the same style of play...Sprite and Ruffles are more laid back while Flurry and Misty tear up the house racing around and jumping on and off furniture. So all in all, unless the UPS truck or the mail truck show up and they all fight for the window, everyone gets along.

What a beautiful pack of Shelties Ann! We went for a hike this morning and when we got home had a bunch of burrs to brush out of Coopers fur...it would kill me doing 6! :)
