I'm Heather. I'm a animal freak by nature. I wasn't allowed pets as a child when we lived in an apartment and I was obsessed with animals. When I was 11 we moved into our house and for Christmas my parents bought me a Mini Poodle/Scottie mix. Because I had asthma my parents wouldn't let her in my room to sleep with me. She essentially became my dog only when she pooped in the backyard
I loved her but she was very attached to my parents because she slept with them. I always said when my husband and I got our own place I was gonna have whatever animals I wanted.
We got our first Sheltie by chance. We moved out of his mother's house and into a rental townhome. We had agreed when we went to the Maryland SPCA that we wanted a smaller dog that had short hair and didn't shed much and was quiet
We got there and there were all these crazy barking dogs and my husband Will went up to Smokey who was a 2 year old 16"(which was big to me) Blue Merle Sheltie and said "that's the one!" I was confused because he didn't fit what I thought we had agreed with. He was terrified of us and even as we were signing the paperwork he wouldn't come near us. He warmed up to us quickly though. A few months later we were watching a USDAA competition on tv and I thought it looked interesting, so I called the number on the screen to inquire about classes and they referred me to my trainer who I've been with ever since. I've been going to classes almost every week for 11 years now!
Now Smokey is 13 and almost blind and sleeps a lot but I tell him he'll always be my number 1 <sniff sniff>
Now we have 3 Shelties and 6 parrots and I also keep saltwater tanks. I've had iguanas and bearded dragons and snakes, but my first love is, was and always will be Shelties
Edited to add a pic of me http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/4890422355_b5dfa74f42_z.jpg
Hard to find since I'm always the one taking pics.
