Honey FYI

This is very interesting information about "local" honey. I've never heard such a thing? We don't have any allergy trouble with our puppers...but my husband and daughters do. I'll have to go on a search for it and see how it does on them ;-).. Would this be a good thing to give to the puppers once in awhile just for an immune system boost?? Thank you!

Just an FYI on local raw honey in humans. Depending on the severity of the allergies in humans, raw honey can throw one into shock. Take it from someone who has been there, done that, got the t-shirt and it wasn't pretty!

(I guess I got a little concerned at the mention of husband and daughter with allergies and maybe you thinking this might boost their immunities to pollen. Just be careful.)

Geesh...that is terrible.I had no idea.We did try it with Earnhardt,and it did work,only a tablespoon,have'nt used it again.

But I will tell Brian about your post,as he is a terrible allergy sufferer,and he mentioned he thought he may try it.

Hairball

I'm new to the forum as of today. My 11 year old sheltie, Aspen started doing this same thing a few weeks ago. She acts like she's going to vomit, then swallows down whatever is is she hacks up. But twice now she's thrown up a large hairball the size of a mouse maybe, but definitely all hair. Is this common? My vet did X-rays and scoped her throat and all looked normal. She hasn't had a fever or an appetite change. My vet doesn't believe the two are related, but the hairball thing never happened in all of the years prior and I feel it's an awfully big coincidence that is should occur in conjunction with the gagging. Any thoughts?

A friend of my mom inherited a dog nobody wanted. The dog started gagging and coughing. I told him to take the dog to a vet. They diagnosed an enlarged heart pressing on the lungs causing the coughing, gagging.

Its funny you asked this because I was wondering the same thing not too long ago.

I didn't see it happen but my sheltie Toby brought up a huge, cat like hair ball. I know it was him because he's a tri-color and my other two dogs are sables.

He was fine afterwards and I haven't seen another one since, but I wondered how common that is. I'm guessing though its not exactly a rare occurrence in long haired dogs.
