Posted on Facebook by Central Illinois Sheltie Rescue about a little Sheltie they got yesterday:

Fawn Update: Thursday Mid-Day.
We have nothing. She is in ICU, at the U of I in Champaign.
The Neurology team is stumped, and are calling in the Toxocology team next. We are passing on all your suggestions to them.......so please keep them coming.
Symptoms are:
Approx 3-4 year old Tri-female. Weight 15#s. Back Legs are limp and unresponsive. Front legs are a bit better but not strong enough for her to stand. She is refusing food. All her labs are fine....kidney, liver etc etc etc. All her Xrays are normal.
They do not think it is a spinal cord injury just based on their findings. They are testing her now for some pretty exotic diseases.....but are not hopeful. No ticks were found anywhere on her. No apparent trauma to her body. Pads on her feet are worn, so we know she could walk at some point.....meaning this is a recent event.
So we are looking for a needle in a haystack. Poison? Disease?
Any medical folks out there want to offer a suggestion, we are all ears.

You all are so awesome and there are so many of you, that I'm hoping someone can come up with a suggestion, thought, idea for this little dog.

You can post to CISR on FB and Natalie will see any ideas you all have.

I'm hoping sooooo hoping someone can help this little girl.

Seems that spinal stroke has been ruled out. CT scan showed nothing. All tests including, liver, kidney, etc have come back normal. The ONLY test that has come back abnormally is thyroid. Very low.

The experts seem to continue to be stumped.

Hmmmm, shelties are prone to hypothyroidism. I wonder if it was low enough that it could interfere with her mobility. This sounds more like a neurological issue though - possibly ingestion of a poison. Please keep us posted!

Sheltiemama,
The little girl went to the Bridge. CISR did everything they possibly could for her but she went anyway. Very sad.
Did you ever learn what illness your little girl had? My youngest sheltie is currently experiencing the same symptoms and testing results. we have no answers and are worried about brain cancer or other neurological issues. Any information you learned may help!
Thank you and so sorry for your loss.
