Specialty Tricks

So just curiuos,
Does anyone have any cool specialty tricks they have their dogs doing?

I am working on a couple with Darby and Deja. I'm teaching Darby to bow. He's pretty good at it, just not 100%.

I'm teaching both puppies to dance, where they get on their hind legs and twirl..

My end goal will be to have one command and Deja will Dance while Darby bows to her.

It's getting there and when I get it to work, I'll video it hehe..

I do have them both doing well with their back/down/sit/stay/wait commands. I can now have them both back up, go into a down position, then have Darby get up walk 1/2 way to me, go in a down, then have Deja come and sit at my feet then have Darby come forward and sit with his sister.

let me know how this goes. I tried to teach Bailey to dance and it didn't work out. She knows paw, high five and spin. I tried to teach her to crawl. She did it one day, but I need to practice again.

Wow, that's awesome! I'm sure it takes a little time and patience to have gottne your fubabes to do those tricks! We're still working on basic stuff like, oh you know, potty training,. But Megan will start obedience school in January, so YAY!

It will be interesting to hear what others here have trained their "kids" to do.:smile2:

Those are some good ones!

We taught Bentley crawl and roll over. He knows wave...but it's more of a prolonged shake. He also knows up, which is to sit up on his back legs, but they must not be very strong because he doesn't stay up very long!

I want to teach him take, to hold something in his mouth, but so far no luck. We also tried sad, where he's supposed to put his head between his feet when he's laying down, but I can't seem to get him to hold his head down long enough. :smile2:

Our trick that wins us prizes at all the doggy events is a weave, followed by a figure 8, followed by one spin and a beg at the end. Never fails to please the crowds. I think seeing a sheltie weave is cute. Not that we win great prizes (its just abit of fun) but Deska loves the attention and applause - he is such a performer.

Fun topic!

I've been working on upping Smoke's repertoire of tricks for his disc dog freestyle routine. Right now he knows Sit Pretty, Dance, Shake, Spin, Twirl, Roll Over and Leg Weaves. I'm working on teaching him a back stall (getting up on my back when I crouch down) and then once hes used to being up there I'd like to teach him to do some of his other tricks while hes up there. One step at a time, though, right now hes only at Paws Up on my back. I also think backwards leg weaves would be fun but hes not the greatest backer in the world :wink2:

Wow! Awesome stuff. Have you videoed any yet? I'll try and get what I have of the two brats recorded. I'm so proud of them!!

Justice's best trick is play dead. which I posted here
http://www.sheltieforums.com/showthread.php?t=3661

He also retrieves the bowls for supper time. Brings papers and things back and forth between people. Brings me my shoes. Well just about retrieve anything:smile2: Plus all the standard obedience exercises.

Ember speaks and knows her obedience commands

Diva she knows sit, down, heel around stand etc. Go to your place. But reading about all these tricks is inspiring me to teach them something new.

Jazz, my JRT mix was my trick dog. She could get a kleenex when I sneezed, spin right or left, do a back filp, speak, whisper, put her paw on her nose, roll over, crawl, play dead, pout(put her head between her front feet), balance a treat on her nose, walk backwards, shake, high five, wave, take a bow, jump up into my arms, sneeze on command. I taught her to bark at people when I said watch em. She looked vicious too. PLus standard obedience commands. She was an only dog for 9 yrs can you tell?

I'm slowly working on backward figure 8s but it's not easy! Romeo's big thing now is probably going backwards around me in a circle. I'm in a rut thinking of what else to teach. Now I'm training him to pick up metal objects coz I realised one fine afternoon when I was locked out of my house, that he will not go take the keys that I've somehow jiggled onto the floor, in his mouth. I did however clicker train him during that 10 mins to paw the darn thing to me in the end!! Hmm. Maybe his next big thing could be helping me "burglarise" my own home! He can get into the house through the grills but I'm too big. I'll teach him to fetch the keys from a hook and bring them to me!

Keys are the one thing that Justice hates to retrieve. He picks up other metal things no problems. I even up a soft key chain on it. He'll do it but he is not happy. I noticed when he puts his face down he acts like they really smell bad. Maybe keys since they are handled so much had a really strong odor to dogs that they don't like.
