Thank you :-)

Yes, poor puppy definitely does not do well in the heat. They normally have kiddie pools at the all the trials down here but today they weren't set up. Hopefully they will have them out tomorrow.

The knocked bar was just very strange. I think Spirit has knocked a total of 6 bars ever in her entire life. She's just not a bar knocker. I'm a little disappointed that it happened but I don't think it's anything to worry about as long as it doesn't start happening regularly. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

I've been to trials where they have the pools set up. our trials will pretty much wrap up in early May so we don't compete in the summer heat here....

I did forget to ask if there's any chance of videos:fl

Yep, thanks to my faithful friends I have video of everything - the good, the bad, and the ugly :-) But it's kind of a pain to get the videos uploaded, so I'll do it at the end.

All of the summer trials here are indoors, but today was actually surprisingly warm for March. Really need to get poor Spirit a cooling vest.

jealous- no indoor trials anywhere nearby:(
it was about 70 here until the rain came in.....

we will patiently wait until the trial is over for the videos:pop

Day 2 of agility is over, and it was quite a mixed bag. We started with FAST, and Spirit did a great job, with a Q and first place.

Then onto our sad Jumpers run. The course started with a tunnel into the weaves, and then a sharp right turn to the right (there was a jump right after the weaves that the dog wasn't supposed to take). I was so worried about pulling Spirit off that jump in front of her that I pulled away early, pulling her out of the weaves. So I took her back to re-try, and she back weaved, so right there she had an NQ. She tried the weaves again and popped out at the 10th pole again (when I looked at the video I realized I pulled her off the weaves again). Though she DOES need to understand that she's supposed to stay in the weaves no matter what I'm doing, it was an understandable error. But I was annoyed and frustrated that she didn't stay in the weaves and NQd because of the back weave and I pulled her out of her run, which I regretted immediately. Fortunately she didn't hold a grudge and forgave me right away.

Finally on to Standard. I laid out the course so that we wouldn't do the teeter. She had trouble with her weaves again, but this time I think it was because the weaves headed straight into the corner of the ring. She did, however get them on the third try. The rest of the run was very nice - she paused partway down the a-frame to look at the judge, but then went to the bottom and did a very nice 2o2o. She did the same thing on the dogwalk, but again finished with a 2o2o. So in the end, if she had done the teeter that run would have been a Q.

All in all, so proud of her. She worked very hard and did a great job. I'm sure she's going to sleep well tonight :-)

Spirit wrapped up her agility weekend with a Q and 2nd place in Open Jumpers, and blown contacts (granted, both the dogwalk and a-frame headed straight into tunnels, which I thought was a little much for Novice) resulting in her being pulled out of Standard. I guess her contacts are not proofed well enough to handle the temptation of tunnels. Oh well. Lesson learned. Now we know what to work on in class for the next month in preparation for the Peach Blossom Cluster in Perry in April.

So overall this weekend, Spirit got 2 Qs and first places in Novice FAST, and 1 Q and second place in Open Jumpers. I love that she enjoys the game as much as I do and that she is doing so well for a Baby Dog :-)

So here's a copy of my post from the trial in Perry Georgia, along with the unedited video links (it was a very lengthy post). All in all, very proud of Baby Girl!

"Thanks everyone! Spirit did a wonderful job at the trial (at least in the beginning!), doing the teeter with no hesitation, holding her stopped contacts, and allowing me to leash her back up at the end of her runs. She started off the first day in T2B, coming in 2nd place (though they don't technically award placements in T2B), and earning 8 points. Needless to say, I was thrilled beyond belief that she did the teeter, and getting a Q and placement was just gravy. The next day, she Qd in Novice FAST, coming in 2nd place and earning her Novice FAST title (if only I had thrown in 1 more obstacle, she would have won - we had 70 points and 1st place dog had 74). But she again did the teeter and I was so proud of her. On to Open JWW, where Spirit Qd, came in first place, and earned her Open Jumpers title. Aaaaaaaand, then on to Standard, where it all fell apart. The course started with a dogwalk to tunnel, and Spirit just couldn't hold her little puppy brain together, blowing her contact (ok, not technically blowing it, but not doing a stopped contact, which is what I want her to do), then bailed off the teeter just before it hit the ground. So she did the Walk of Shame off the course (and she proceeded to yell at me the entire time we were walking off the course). At that point I knew something was going on with her, but I didn't know what. I couldn't see any reason for her to suddenly be afraid of the teeter again, but figured I would just let it go and try again next time. The 3rd day, we took off and went shopping and lure coursing. Spirit LOVED lure coursing (even though it was about 50 degrees out, windy and rainy, it didn't faze her a bit) and earned 2 qualifying runs towards her title. We would have done it again but you were only allowed 2 qualifying runs in one day. But it was a nice break, Spirit had fun, and everyone felt better. Back to agility on Day 4. Spirit not only refused the teeter, but refused the dogwalk as well. Clearly she was on complete overload and the problem was getting worse, so I pulled her out again (and once again she was furious at me, barking up a storm the whole way out). I felt bad, but at the same time, she needs to understand that her decisions have consequences. I'm not angry or upset at her when she refuses the contacts - but at the same time, she's only allowed to keep playing if she does her job. I don't want her to think she has the option to do or not do certain obstacles. If she doesn't want to do something, that's fine, but the game is over for the day. So then on to our very first Excellent Jumpers run, where Spirit decided to run around the first 2 jumps to get to me instead of taking them (she hadn't even started the timer). I managed to get her back to the beginning to restart and she finished strong, but the refusal had already been called at the beginning since she passed the plane of the first jump, so no Q. I decided she needed a little break, so we headed back over to lure coursing and she did her third run for her Coursing Ability title! She really loved it and visibly relaxed after that. On day 5, I pulled her out of Standard completely, but we did do Jumpers, and she did AMAZING!!!!!! I sent her into the wrong side of the tunnel (bad mom!!!!!!) and then cued her late to the weaves, causing her to spin and have a refusal called, but it was a beautiful run and an awesome finish the the week.

Needless to say, I was VERY worried about her teeter, so immediately booked a private lesson with the trainers when we got home - and Spirit got out there and did her contacts beautifully, including the teeter. So I'm chalking the teeter/contact issue up to ring stress as opposed to an actual teeter issue. I also talked to Spirit's trainer and she agreed that the trial was an awful lot of stimulation for Spirit, and it wasn't surprising that she had had a bit of a meltdown, but that as she matured she should be able to handle it just fine. She also agreed with my decision to pull Spirit out at the end and said that letting Spirit go lure coursing to clear her head was a very good decision.

So all in all, Spirit walked away with 3 new titles and we had a lot of fun!!!!!! Very excited for our next trial this coming up weekend, where Spirit will hopefully feel confident enough to do her contacts. I guess we'll just wait to see how it goes."
