Staph infection

I have not been here in a while and actually had forgotten that I had this board...sorry. But I have been coming back a few days now and trying to catch up.
I have 2 Shelties, one of mine Katie has a staph infection. She also has lymphoma and my vet does not want to put her back on antibiotics had one round of baytril when she first got the infection and then had been on them again for 2 weeks with a second flare up. I am putting neosporin on them 3 times a day and I have put aloe gel on also. Any other ideas of what to use? I found http://www.nzymes.com/product-ox-e-drops.htm this product but wonder will it work. She has also been having bouts every few days of loose stools, most likely due to the antibiotics. She is now on a probiotic but have also been thinking about adding enzymes. She gets so many supplements due to her cancer.

Welcome back! I know someone will have great advice -- just not me. I'm only good at human illness.

I'm sorry to hear she's so sick. I've never delt with such a problem so can't recommend much. My only thought is that if you go to a pharmacy you may be able to get an over the counter ointment with a few antibiotics in it, I know that polysporin makes one.

My only other suggestion would be that you might look into a naturopathic vet. I myself have found alternative therapy to work when I'd run out of options for traditional medicine. Naturopathic vets can be hard to find and are expensive (at least in my area) but one may be able to help you in a way that natural medicine can't.

I hope she's doing better soon!

I'm sorry to hear about your pup and cancer. My last sheltie, Dorian, had Lymphoma too. I had to put him down this past June. I went the natural/alternative route with his treatment. If you want some information you can PM me. As for the infection, I would use colloidal silver, it is a natural antibiotic. I use it personally and with my two puppies. It works great.

I am so sorry to hear about Katie. Ontario gave you great advice, that is what I used on my dog I had. I had two brothers, one lived til he was 15 1/2,
and the other came down with cancer. He lost lots of hair on his chest, horrible. God love him, he ran around with an old undershirt on all the time, so he wouldn't lick or scratch.

I used what Ontario suggested, and to clean him up I used a product called Sea Breeze, its to clean up the skin and its an astringent. You would have to cover the area though with gauze because if she licks it, not good.

I know I ran my dog down to the vet, and I was in the same situation you are in, what to use. Your phamacy can possibly come up with great ideas too for over the counter solutions. We didn't have infections, the cancer was hurting his immune system, that was causing the hair loss. I can vision what your going through, and my heart goes out to you.

((((((((((((LOTS OF PRAYERS COMING YOUR WAY))))))))))))))

I think everyone has posted some great advice. I will keep you and Katie in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you are able to get it cleared up soon! Hugs!

Susan - if you click on Ania's name below it will pop up a box with options, one of them being to send a private message. Also, if you want to post pictures you would need to either become a premium member or put you pictures in a public photo albulm online like photobucket and paste the link in your comment. It's good to see that Katie is doing well. I hope she gets over the staph infection soon! Hope all of that helps too! :biggrin2:
