Swelling on jaw

Good news! I saw the same vet who diagnosed Yogi's problem last year and who I have implicit faith in. He immediatly said it was an abcess and pointed out where part of the molar had broken off, which I'm ashamed to admit I hadn't noticed. He will have an op on friday to extract the tooth and is on antibiotics in the meantime to deal with the infection. I am doubly pleased acatually as I mentioned that Revel had a grade 2 heart murmer (which more than one vet has highlighted). This vet is a leading heart specialist and he had a listen and said there was no heart murmer. If one was intermittantly present then it was very insignificant so I am very happy to hear this as I had considered putting Revel on homeopathic heart medication to prevent it worsening.

I do still have a concern about the op on friday as he doesn't react well to the ASP anasthetic, but a note has been made to only give him a quarter dose. The extraction will be performed by the practice dental specialist so he will be in good hands. None the less, I will be pleased when it is over.

Glad to hear that it wasn't anything too serious.
I'm sure he'll back to normal in no time!!
I'll be thinking of him!! Keep us posted on how everything goes.

Glad to hear that you know what it is. We will be crossing our fingers over here for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

Thanks Dr. Shelli for your input! Spot on yet again :wink2:

Revel, I hear you are going to the dentist. They wil pull a tooth. I had to get a tooth pulled. I slept through it and felt great after. Be brave.

Revel is in my prayers for a successful and uneventful surgery and for speedy recovery.

Prayers, also, going out for his doctors to guide them through Revel's surgery.

I believe Revel will be just fine.

Will be thinking of Revel, especially on Friday. May the operation go smoothly and that he recovers rapidly. :smile2:

No more owie

Wonderful to hear that it is just a silly old tooth. Poof and it will be a dim memory.

Good luck Revel,

Kate and Harper Lee

Poor Revel, I thought the swelling was reducing last night but this is the sight that greeted me this morning

I called the vet who said although this wasn't ideal, it wasn't too much of a problem unless Revel seemed in a lot of pain. Given that he had wolfed his brekfast as usual, done some barking and leg grabbing:rolleyes2: I said he didn't seem to bad but it was just the swelling looked so dreadful and I was afraid it was going to rupture! The other thing I was worried about was that it would cause a problem for the operation. Thankfully my vet reassured me on both points and said that will make the difference and there wasn't much more (in the way of antibiotics) that could be done. It came up so rapidly it was almost as if he had been bitten!
Revel is probably a bit more subdued than normal tonight but has tucked into his dinner and done more barking and leg grabbing, so that's a good sign I suppose. I can't wait for friday to be over now. Epic's not happy because I have fenced off all the furniture to give Revel somewhere he can get away from Epic. Thank you for all your good wishes - this time of the year seems to be jinxed for my dogs. At least this operation is routine and quick and he will feel a lot better afterwards.
