Swelling on jaw

Poor Revel indeed. I am happy to hear that although it doesn't look good that he is eating and acting fairly normal.

I know you will feel much better once the operation is out of the way. Thinking of you guys!

Aw Revel :(.

I hope surgery goes well and he has an easy recovery.

A month ago, I noticed Bailey's face was swollen above her eye, down to her snout. I called the vet, but by the end of the day it was gone. No idea what it was. I now wonder if it was a tooth issue.

I'm happy to report Revel is back home safe and sound and the operation went to plan. The day didn't start too well as I had just set off when I realised the car had a flat tyre so I had to borrow Garry's to take him to the vet, which I'm not used to driving and to cap it all - it started to snow!

I hadn't heard anything by 4pm so I called and they said he was fine and ready to collect. Garry had changed the wheel so at least I was able to drive my own car. Even the return journey wasn't straightforward. I wasn't far from the vets when all the traffic was turned round by a policeman as there had been an accident, so I had to go round the long way through solid rush hour traffic which took an extra 45 minutes. The vet was excellent, she only had to take the one tooth out - the big molar. Apparently the back root was 'waving about in the air' where it had been broken and infection had got into the tooth pulp. The abcess was nasty and some of the bone had to be removed as well as it had gone nasty, but she said because it hadn't been broken too long, it wasn't brittle so she had been able to get it all out. He's got some disolvable stitches in the gum and she said it should heal fine, but no crunchy/hard food for a couple of weeks. Even though he only had a 1/4 dose of ACP, he's still very tottery and sleeping quietly in his crate which is unusual for him as he doesn't like being crated under normal circumstances. They gave him something to eat, which he polished off, of course! I expect he'll be feeling a lot better from tomorrow. Epic is terribly curious so has to be kept away, I don't think Revel's up to having Mr Bounce in his face yet.
A big relief now it's all over! It's always horrid sending a dog in for surgery, even something minor.
Apparently he also has a bit of gum hyperplasia - basically excess gum. It's often seen in Boxers but I've not heard of it before. It isn't a problem anyway which is the main thing.

Happy to hear that the surgery was uneventful. I'm sure he'll be happy to get a little extra attention as he recovers. :)

Thank you for the update on Revel. Sounds like he is on the road to recovery!

So happy to hear the operation went well. Please continue to keep us updated.

Chloe gets this. She is SUPER clumsy and when she gets excited she will turn really quickly and wack her muzzle on whatever is in the way. Several times now she has burst a blood vessel in her muzzle and gotten swollen. You know that it is just a broken vessel if the swelling goes down in a day.

So glad to hear that the surgery was successful! I hope that Revel has a quick recovery!
