As far as I understand, it is true in people too. Once the horse is out of the barn...

I hope Barkley is feeling better soon. Interesting that he never tested positive of Lyme. The test is pretty sensitive. Did he get tested for Anaplamosis or Ehrlichia? They are 2 other tick borne diseases and they can have very similar syptoms. They also respond to Doxy treatment.
It must be summer in Connecticut. For the third straight June, Barkley has Lyme disease. He must have read how pampered his nephew McKinley was after his diagnosis and picked this week to get his own case.
The interesting thing about Barkley is that he's never tested positive, but his symptoms are pretty classic and he responds almost immediately to Doxycyclene, the Lyme antibiotic. The year before last, he had it twice in one summer! What threw us off this time is that he was lame on a different leg than his usual Lyme leg. But I knew this morning the poor little guy was so stiff looking and just not himself what was was going on. He didn't have McKinley's high temp but he was high normal, which is also his pattern, along with the gimpiness, lethargy and stiffness.
So just be aware if your dog has had Lyme that they do seem to get repeat cases, and may not always present all the symptoms. I'm hoping Barkley improves after a dose or two of the Doxy as he usually does. At the moment, he's laying at my feet wearing his pathetic look....![]()
