Tail

When Blaze was small, I thought it was so cute when he would be sleeping sucking his tail. Now I don't think it's so cute. He eats hair--his, mine, it doesn't matter (seems he really likes the hair spray I use, so should I get on his level....but I'm more concerned with his tail.

The fur of the white tip on his tail is about 1/4 of it's size now and the darker fur around it is sort of raggedy--almost like the tail had a serrated knife look by the tip, some hair is shorter than the other. I've sprayed it with Bitter Lime to hopefully make the fur taste bad, but he seems to like the Bitter Lime. Any suggestions what to do--besides just hoping that he'll stop should he accidentally bite himself?

Can you try spraying bitter apple on his tail. You can pick it up at the pet store. Good luck! You are right to nip this in the bud!

Pickle juice is another deterrent. Unless your pup is fond of pickles.

This isn't one I've ever heard of before, Jean! I hope you can get a handle on it. If the deterrents won't work, it may be behavioral. I'd check with your vet for suggestions before it gets too far ahead of you. I wonder if it's similar to pups who lick their paws and such out of habit. Please let us know what happens!

When Koko was chewing Fillion's coat, the breeder suggested making a paste of cayenne pepper and spreading it on the area he was chewing. It did the trick, however it took awhile and it needed to be reapplied often. Maybe it would work for Blaze.
