My husband and I have done alot of reading and talking to one of the local pet suppliers here and we will be using TOTW when we get our new furkids. My question is I know that they have three different flavors and after readiing the several posts on making sure that the pup is switched slowly, would you guys say that the transition should be with only one flavor or does it matter when you start the transitioning?? We have talked about getting a bag of each of the flavors so that the pups will have a variety. What are your thoughts on this??? Thanks!

Most places will give you a free sample (especially if they think you will be a repeat customer). Get some samples and see what your pups like best.
 
Pick your poison and don't switch around is my advice.

TOTW was high on my list and I would have switched over to it when Bacca had his issues. But I'm a "bird bigot". The fish formula was less in protein, which is what I needed for him, but I just did not think Salmon a natural diet for Shelties. So I went with Now! Which had a lesser protein but still fowl based.
 
I have the Welands formula here. They sell most of the bag flavors at the Tractor Supply Store. Smudge loves it and Fluffy won't touch it. Some dogs like it and some dogs don't.

Barb, that is the same reason I didn't want to try the High Praire formula. All those poor shelties sure were kept busy herding all the Buffalo. :lol:

I wish they would sell the canned TOTW here. I looked, and they do not. Online it says they carry them here, but I looked around and asked the sales people. No canned. :no:
 
Nothing beats High Prairie here, lol, they snub up their nose at anything else since they started eating it.

The saleslady gave me some samples of solid gold and instinct grain free, but after looking it up - it's 42% protein and TOTW has better reviews.

I thought 32% was rather high, but the boys are very active and in good weather, they're running and outside playing most of the day. So I feel like it keeps them pretty level. But honestly, I can't imagine even making use of 42% :\

UHOH protein rearing its ugly head again!!!:eek2:
 
Switched Penny and Trevor over to TOTW a few days ago and my Mom said both have some really rancid gas! Penny just let one loose on the couch that cleared the room. Is this normal as they get used to a higher quality food?
