The Pressure is on!

You used incorrect terminology: it's "damYankees."

Nope that is our sheep he came from the frozen land and stayed. But me and my brother Spitfire keep close watch on him to make sure he doesn't go back there. He feeds us well and we are hot weather Shelties not the frozen kind. We on the other hand are good southern bred Shelties (I would bark gentlemen except for my brother's behavior :rolleyes2:)

I am a Tennessee Sheltie and he is from the good part of Kentucky.

They posted up the format

It will be a double round robin in our class. So six races that are 3/5 so a minimum of 18 runs or a maximum of 30. The funny thing is that from a points per dog stand point it is best if the team does not sweep the other as you run more that way

That's an interesting way of doing points - bit weighted in favour of the faster teams though. We get one point for a clean run and an extra point if its a win. Tully usually averages 22 points a comp and poor Deska about 12 (he has some unreliable dogs on his team). So Tully has her Masters now (500 points) but Deska is still a long way off - hoping he will at least get enough points before he retires.

I like evenly matched racing too so we get more runs if its best of 5 heats, that's usually what happens in Tully's division because 22sec is the average for a team here so there is very little difference in the seed times for teams that run around 22sec. At 34sec Deska's team is the slowest in Australia but that's because we have a few 10+sec dogs on his team.

Are you going to get a chance to video - haven't see any recently of Sca.

I hope to get video but this one is going to be interesting. Last time we were low on people but ran 3 teams so very little break time. This time we are going to have one team but zero extra team members so any video will be set it and record with no panning. Also we are doing a hotel rather than the motorhome since their park area is likely to muddy :eek2:

I know nothing about this sport. Is it like, one dog races somewhere then the next etc ... any they run so many times to finish??
Just curious. Thanks

Yep relay race so for us.....

The judge looks to both lanes to get a nod. Then the lights flash up to the top. The top yellow stays on for 1.2 seconds then goes off and the next yellow comes on. From 50+ feet Indy the BC is let go toward the start line 1.2 seconds later the green comes on and hopefully the timer says there was a 0.001 second delay between the green coming on and Indy crossing the start. Indy then goes 5 feet to the first jump which for this race is set at 10". The next 3 jumps are 10' apart then the turn box. Ideally she makes a stride per jump. Then she banks onto the box from the left heading right and snatching the tennis ball out. One stride per jump and about 4.3-4.5 seconds later she crosses the line just a slight bit before Angel (aka Sca's girlfriend) crosses the start line for her turn. Angel crosses the jump and hits the box hard and fast for a little BC grabbing the ball going left to right again. 4.3-4.6 seconds later Angel is back as I let Sca go to perfectly cross again. Sca at his best behavior resists the urge to chase Angel and rockets down over the jumps and hits the box right to left grabbing a foam ball. He crosses the line for a personal best of 4.9 seconds right as Slick Angel's brother crosses the line. As Slick hits the box from left to right and heads back the team goes wild. Crossing the line the lights flash 4.6 for Slick then switches to the team total of 18.4! Victory for Sca and his pals and 25 points!

I have sooo gotta get one of those, at least in a car sticker, shame I won't get it in time for the Nationals.

Dexter's mom - flyball is a relay race. Four dogs run the relay, one dog runs over 4 jumps, gets a ball by hitting a spring-loaded box and comes back over the same four jumps. As that dog crosses the start/finish line the next dog starts. To finish a race all dogs have to do all the jumps and carry the ball over the line, so if the dog makes a mistake that dog has to run again until they get it right, or unless the team captain declares the race as a "Did not finish".
