The Road to the CGC test

Try and tire them out before the test. That really helped Bailey pass last week. She was too tired to react to distractions or care about the other dogs.

Yep, get them tired. And be confident! If you are nervious they will feed off your nerves. You'll be fine and they will show you what they can do!! Prepare to pass!!

Results...

We got the boys VERY tired by taking them on an hour long drive to Fort DeSoto dog beach, where they romped to their utmost delight. They napped on the way home. I made a quick dinner of homemade stuffed shells (homemade sauce with fresh rosemary... it was so good!) while hubby washed the dogs (then we washed ourselves... sand is sticky). And then off to the test...

The chocolate lab who hasn't shown up in a while came today and was a loud distraction. There was weird sticky stuff in the middle of the room that was a distraction. I was sure we failed loose leash walking when Duncan paused to scratch his ear. Pierre was uncomfortable with the stranger dog.

And somehow... we passed! It was really nice to see the work pay off and BOTH the boys are now Canine Good Citizens!!!! I am so proud of them and think we would've had a harder time if they weren't so tired! Thanks to all who gave encouraging words over the past weeks. Now to bed - we're beat!

Congratulations! Doesn't it feel so good when all that hard work pays off??? It's 100% true that a good dog is a tired dog :)

Thanks so much, it is a great feeling. There is definitely more work ahead, definitely more classes, and I've been eying those agility courses for 8 weeks now.

Congratulations! Have you decided what's next? Obedience? Agility? Flyball?

Keep having fun with Duncan and Pierre.
