those who guessed collie were right! charley isnt a sheltie

i took charley to the vet, and he confirmed my suspicions. i did rescue a collie. he is a small collie the vet said, but he is only 11 months. he is 40lbs now and im thinking will be around 50-60 when he puts some weight on. he isnt emaciated by boney. with jake and izz you dont feel their bones at all, charley you can feel his butt and back bones.

so 2 shelties and a collie now. i think i was meant to have charley, if i would have known he was a blue merle collie i dont know if i would have rescued him, i wanted to keep a sheltie house since i did want a merle. but one look at him and that was it.

i blame it on my friend jen who passed away, i was so distraught from her murder that when my friend sent me the link to this so called sheltie i was still crying over her death and decided that jen would rescue him, and just knew i had to kind of for her if that makes any sense. like she kinda brought him into my life. she was on my mind the whole way there and back.
 
I am so sorry about Jen -- how perfectly dreadful! Perhaps she did want you to rescue Charley, and why not!!

thank you , it is dreadful, and im trying to not think about her, but is really hard. and i actually wanted to rescue a merle sheltie, if the add woulda said collie probably not, i honestly dont know, because at $75 he was so afordable, just so big. i didnt know he was gonna be 40lbs at 11 months old. with back issues, i can just barely pick up my shelties. so charley is a challenge, but i will tell you, this boy has stolen my heart! last night he jumped in my bed with me and izzy and snuggled with me for awhile. i have a waterbed, and he really makes me realize i seriously need more water in it. he is really a big boy.

the lady is still arguing with me that he is a sheltie, so do i go on what the vet said? or the lady who wont even give me her vet info on him. honestly the vet. since i have asked her 3 times about the vet info, he got a rabies shot yesterday which she said he had all of his shots but funny wont give me any info.

regardless this beautiful boy is so attached to me already its quite amazing after having him a week now. he tells me how much is so happy to be out of that home by the way he snuggles with me and reacts with me. people have noticed it by the way he looks at me and acts with me. so im glad i got him. the shelties love him. honestly its kind of neat comparing them to eachother, well i mean noticing the differences, charley snout is much longer and his fur is much thicker and his tail is much thicker and fuller. its really neat. now to get some weight on him. and he did good today, potty outside not in the basement. he needs some training though with manners. he seems to loving jumping over things so i would love to get him into some agility stuff.
 
My Collie is a "small" Collie, at 22 inches at the shoulder at about 56 pounds. Males should be 24-26 inches at the shoulder, but he doesn't look that big to me.

You don't think that Collie people actually lift their dogs, do you? :wink2: There are ways to teach the dogs to get up on things to ease the back burden.

I think you will love him as much as the Shelties, Collies are cool dogs. Congratulations on your accidental Collie (everyone needs one).

LOL...How about a colltie? shellie? Hmm...and no disrespect meant to your vet, but vets are health experts (hopefully) and not necessarily breed experts :wink2:. He might be saying collie just because of the size but hey, either way, it sounds like destiny. I have two collies and one sheltie and I think they make a lovely set :biggrin2:
 
Whatever he is, I'm sure Charley will be your best friend for years to come:wink2:

BTW, when you say 'collie' I automatically think border collie, but do you mean a rough collie?

I have noticed that in the UK collie means a border collie because they are so popular, a rough collie is a 'lassie dog'. But in the US it seems collie refers to rough collies, as they are more prevalent?
