Tinsel's Journey

I think you are a real sheltie whisperer. Just look how far you have come with Tinsel and all done with compassion and love. I can just see the rescue lady's face when she saw Tinsel. You and Tinsel made their day (probably year) and I bet you two will be the talk of sheltie rescue in a good way. I look forward to reading your posts and hearing about Tinsel. More pics. Please.

Oh how I wish I was a dog whisperer. I would whisper, loudly to make sure he could hear me, for Toby to go back to being the easy dog he was when you first got him and stop giving you grief.
I will admit that I have been told that I have a calming influence on both animals and children. Why that is I have no idea. I don't do anything wise or special. Maybe it's the result of 3 children in 4 years. You either go crazy or become very accepting that things are what they are. Maybe a little of both!
Anyway, I'm glad that Tinsel is moving in the right direction. Wish I could say the same about his grooming!

Just catching up, Hartley is keeping me busy. What a gift you have given this beautiful boy. I cry tears of joy and sadness each time I read your posts. Sadness for the life he must have lead and joy for the blessed and loving future you have and he have to look forward to. You are an Angel plain and simple. God Bless you both.

Thanks Tagg, that means a lot. But Toby was never and easy dog, he's been a challenge since we got him. He still takes a LOT of energy at times and he's significantly better than he was.

I'm so happy for you and Tinsel, because of you he lives such an enriched, full life compared to before. Lucky Boy! :smile2:

He just brought me a sock that I took off - feet were hot from being out in the sun gardening. When I asked him, as sternly as I can manage with him looking at me with his beady little eyes, "what you got there" he immediately dropped it and then sat - his way of alerting me he found something of mine.
Uh huh, I didn't ask for him to find my sock! I can see where this is headed.
Sorry Melissa, I thought you told me that Toby was okay the first two months and then started to show himself to becoming more and more reactive. Guess I am mistaken so Toby, please realize that your mom is not going to put you in harms way and she will protect you. If only he could get the message eh???
Are you going down to Woofstock? I will be in the booth on Saturday morning with my niece and then scooting off to celebrate my grandson's 13th birthday. I'm not taking Tinsel - too much activity for the boy child just yet and it will probably be hot.

Tinsel just conquered two more hurdles. It doesn't sound like much but it is a big step for him. He is pushing in between Phoebe and Rhiannon so he can watch us when we are outside the door we use to come in from the driveway. It's pretty cute seeing his little face with his nose pressed up against the glass with the other two dogs flanking him. When I call out to them I can see a grey and white tail wagging away in amongst the brown and the white. Prior to this he had gotten brave enough to stand at the back of the pack but now he is one of them. Yeah my little boo bear!
Today we also went back to training the sacred recall in our newly fenced yard. He found it boring to say the least. I think he's been hanging around Phoebe a little too much - she comes when it suits her or if I rattle the cookie jar. I never taught her a recall and it shows!
He also didn't flinch today when the dog across the street started to bark to me. Starr hears me playing with my dogs and barks her fool head off. Her mom can't get her to quiet but isn't upset by it. You see, whenever I go over there I do a little training with her which equals fun and goodies. Anyway, Tinsel has always cowered whenever he heard Starr, or any other adult dog, barking but today he just casually looked over and went back to trying to find that chipmunk Phoebe had chased. I have to believe that Rhiannon and Phoebe have played a big role in showing him their total unconcern about the whole thing. Anyway, it's a step in the right direction toward going into a larger class environment for Tinsel.

How heartwaring to hear he is now a part of the pack, that is a big step and wonderful to know he is know picking up ques from other dogs and is feeling braver. Hugs to you both. Just shared his story recently with a friend who has a new rescue and has recently joined the forum too.
