Some dogs really have a way with other dogs and don't set them off, because they so KNOW what signals to give when and to whom! Dogs are so smart with their body signals, aren't they?
My instructor's deaf Border Collie has that gift, so much so that she doesn't take Seven with her if she does private consultations, because her presence calms the other dog down to the effect that she doesn't get a real read on what the dog is really like, lol
Sounds to me like your Instructor recognized that gift in Tin also, isn't that so special!!?
Tinsel really is one of a kind!!

It is wonderful!. Truly understanding his journey and watching him is heartwarming. We try not to dwell on where they came from but the special moments make us realize how much has been accomplished.
 
I'm not sure if this is regression or progression for Tinsel. He has now decided to growl at selected people that come here that he doesn't really know. Today it was my brother, my favourite brother I might add. I can't scold him for it as I don't want him to go from warning he is worried to just biting without warning. I told brother to sit down and ignore him and after a few minutes I started to hand out treats. I gave Tinsel's to my brother and he called to him. Tin came over as close as he dared and stretched to get the treat from brother. He then retreated back to his spot on the other side of the room.
So, here's the question. Do you think that as he feels stronger physically and mentally he is now presenting this challenge or do you think he is regressing? I have my own thoughts on the subject but wondered what you all thought.
 
I am not well versed on behavior in dogs with major issues, but my immediate take is, he is comfortable enough to state his warning to strangers on his own property. A little more confident. I'm curious to see what others think.
 
Well, here's an interesting twist. Cindy and Grant came by, of Portuguese water dog fame, and Rhiannon gave them the usual big greeting. They have known her as long as I have so they are aunty and uncle to her.
Cindy was not at all quiet in her hugging and chatting to our Terv beauty which normally would put Tinsel off. He rarely sees these people, in fact it has been months since they were here as we live quite a ways apart now. Anyway, Tin ran right over, tail a waggin, and gave her the big greet too. Cin reached down and scratched his neck and head and he stood there with no reserve. Grant then came in and he got the same treatment. Hmmmm
Is it possible that my brother, sweet, kind and gentle person that he is, reminds Tinsel of someone he was afraid of? I guess we'll have to see as I now need to start parading people into the house to gauge Tin's reactions.
Living with Tinsel certainly keeps me on my toes!
 
Tin is seeing an orthopedic specialist on Friday. This will be an initial consult and we are really looking forward to seeing what Dr. Bouke has to say. I expect he will want to do xrays and will be taking the original digital ones that I had done on his right leg a year ago and had put on a disc for future reference.
Poor Tin cannot handle going for walks without coming up lame quite quickly. His wrist is definitely twisting more than it did originally which is worrisome. He continues to spin but if he puts his head level or lower with his back, the limping starts. He needs some physical exercise but is incapable of doing much. Oh well, we will see what the good doctor has to say and I will let you all know. Please keep him in your thoughts.
 
Poor Tin Man! Gosh I really hope there is some way to help him, Joann. He deserves as much healthy pain free time as he can get to make up for the bad start in life. Bless you for being able to help him to such an extent. Keep us posted. Hugs to you both.
 
Poor boy.:( I'm sorry he needs more help but I'm glad it's you who's there for him. Prayers for you and your sweet little Tin, keep us updated!:hugs
