Tiring 'special needs' dog

Poor you and poor little Deska! I feel for you both.

I wish I could offer more words of wisdom to help during these times but I am afraid I do not.

My only thought on Deska pain is the possibility of trying muscle relaxers along with pain killers. I am not sure why but when Mr Chance has a bad time with his bone spurs I was given both pain killers and muscle relaxers to use together. That helps to give him relief!

I have tried just on or just the other individually and it will not relieve the pain. Together they work wonders. Not sure if this combination would help Deska. Just a thought!

I sure hope you can get some time for yourself to recharge. Virtual hugs coming your way.... :hugs

You are a GREAT sheltie MOM!

Caro I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. I am really happy to hear that you took some time for yourself. You're such a good caregiver for Deska, he is so lucky to have you. But make sure you take time to yourself as well. :hugs

Interesting you mention the muscle relaxant. I have valium for Deska for thunderstorms and I had noticed he is better after a valium. I asked the vet about it but she didn't really like the idea. I have a few so may try it again when he goes through a bad phase again and see if it helps. At the very least it will calm him down a little - good idea.

This is what Mr Chance is on for his bone spurs when his pain is really bad.

muscle relaxer is methocarbamol 500 mg 1/2 tablet 2x per day
Pain killer is gabapentin capsule 2x per day

I must say it is the only thing that gives him relief!

It is really horrible to see him in pain. I only give this combination when he is in extreme pain. Never want to use too many drugs since he is a senior.

Hope this information helps!
