Toby's day...

Thank you all for thoughts and prayers for puppy Toby! I just got word that it's done, he did great and came out of anesthesia in less than 2 minutes.

However I am bothered by something . I like most of the Vet Techs at the hospital except for one and of course that one is caring for Toby. I mean she is a great Tech, but she is "old school" in her way of dealing with animal care. I asked if we would be sent home with pain meds and she said "most likely Rimady unless he behaves wimpy and needs more". :eek2: I quickly said it's not wimpy if he is in pain, he's a puppy and I don't want him to be uncomfortable.

I honestly don't want her to take care of Toby and I don't want to deal with her during his discharge...should I call back and make that request as tactfully as possible??

I'm glad to hear that Toby came through the surgery well!

I am not sure what to tell you about the vet tech. Do you not like her because of the way that she interacts with you? Or because of the way that she interacts with the animals?

I ask that because we took Lexi to a local vet who everyone warned me about--she just isn't a people person. She wasn't mean, just gruff. She was absolutely wonderful with Lexi, and clearly adores animals. Just not as good with people!

Unless I were concerned that my dogs were getting subpar care, I probably wouldn't say anything but then again I'm fairly non-confrontational.

Update on Toby's Vet Tech...

I called and tactfully, confidentially told the receptionist my concern and could they please tell our Dr and switch Techs if possible. She was more than sweet and cooperative so here's hoping what I did was good :fl

My concern was and is the way she talks about my animals. Yes I am sure his care today will be fine under her, however when she made the comment about the possibility of Toby being "wimpy" if he was in pain, that bothered me!

I can understand your concern about the vet tech and the treatment given to Toby. I would have probably did exactly as you did. You are only speaking for Toby and a dog showing signs of pain is by no means whimpy. Toby has a very good mom.

Thank you for the support! Besides, we're supposed to be our pets advocates. I mean I'm quite sure the care she would give him would be fine, but I don't want fine, I want the best, fabulous care!!

Hopefully you will not see that vet tech when you pick him up. At our clinic they have set techs but switch off every now and then. The vet tech I loved has left the clinic.
Glad to hear Toby came out of it okay and most likely can't wait to get home-then the fun starts in keeping him down for a week or so. Susan you are a wonderful mom.

Thank you my dear! I actually know this vet tech outside of the hospital and I really like her as a person and friend, just not for my pets...:hide
