TRSSCGP Specialty - Rally Results

Wow! Very nice (even with the coughing--poor guy!) Congratulations on Qing your first time in advanced, that definitely says a lot about your training.

Thanks. We worked pretty hard over the past month to get ready for this. My club offers an Advanced Rally class Friday nights so I've been doing drop ins on that class. (I knew I couldn't make the classes in February for various reasons so I just did drop in.) Every night we'd spend time, about 30 minutes broken into short intervals, working on fronts, right/left finishes, etc.

I'll be honest, I was very surprised the course was so short and didn't have the more difficult stations like Off Set Figure 8 or any of the Pivot turns. The hardest signs on the course, for me, was the "Stand. Walk Around Dog" because Edan was still moving his back end on the walk around during practice and the jump because he loves to just take off and look for the next one. I seriously never expected him to dart toward the jump as we passed it again since normally he's right with me and we've by-passed jumps before in Snooker.

I smiled really big when Edan went over to that jump the second time--he couldn't help himself! :)

After the fact, yeah, it was funny and I can laugh about it. That caught me complete off guard though. Of all the scenarios I trained for, that was NOT one I foresaw.

It's a good thing he never quite made it to the jump. If he'd have taken the jump, it may have resulted in an NQ. At least he'd have had fun. Silly agility dog.

Congrats on the RN title!!! I knew you'd get that one for sure. I loved the video, he is so great. Love his walk/trot too, so cute. I was thinking as you were going through the cones Edan is probably thinking, I can do these weaves, get out of my way. LOL. You guys looked great out there.

Congrats on your first Advanced Rally Q. Very cool. I knew you'd get that one too. See, I told you they weren't going to be super strict. Poor Edan and the coughing, he sure didn't look as peppy as the other run. You can definitely tell it took it's toll on him. how's he feeling today?

Ah, the jump of death. You know, you are quite close to the jump and Edan the agility dog definitely said, JUMP! because you moved just a bit too fast. I had to chuckle. I'm sure Koji would do it.

Stupid question. Are you in Adv. Rally A because you've never put a Adv Rally title on a dog? I thought you'd have to go to Adv. Rally B, because you have a title now. Am I wrong? I hate those darn A/B things, lol

I was going to start working with Miko on a few things, but unfortunately, I've noticed he's turned into a very slow, half deaf dog or something. He never listens to me anymore, rarely sits (I wonder if his hips are bothering him), and basically is either pulling the "old man" card or truly cant' hear me and is more achy lately. Poor thing.

And back to the happiness. Congrats on the RN title and your first leg to the RA. :)

Oh, another question, maybe you'll know. I noticed you put your hand out for Edan to return to heel (when you moved away), if he touched it, would that have been points off? Or incorrect? I know if I did that, it'd be a "touch" command for Koji and he'd touch. Well, maybe not, he does "fake you out touch".

Congrats on your first RA leg. You guys looked really good.

Justice took off over a jump his first in Rally Advanced. He already had his UD by the time rally became a sport. I thought I would try it to see what it was about. Justice was at the time a heeling machine. So I didn't do much extra training for rally and I never really trained for the jump. He was also a velco agility dog. Never thought he would take off that way. I guess it looked to fun to ignore. I don't think it was an NQ but alot of point off.

Rally Advanced A is for any dog that does not have obedience titles or their RA. Diva was in Advanced A when she got her RA. She also got leg RE leg in Ex A. Only Novice A is for handlers that have never put on a title. Now that Diva has an obedience title, she has to get her last 2 legs in Ex B.

If the judge saw it and he actually touched you , it would be points off. Diva used to love to hit my hand when she returned to heel. Very costly habit that I had to get rid of.

I'm assuming you mean regular obedience. So if a dog has his RN (novice A), then you can stay in the A's all the way through?

Good to know. Thankfully (sometimes), Koji does the fake touch.

Sheri, sorry I took this OT. I never understand the A/B group thing. I'm hoping to get Koji into Rally at some point. But first, need to get him to be nice to other dogs. Whoa, so since I have an RN on Miko, that means I'd have to go to B in Novice with Koji. If I went to Advanced, does that I'd go to A again? AUGH! Nevermind. I'll ask later. Sorry again. Back on topic to wonderful Edan.

Yes, if you start Rally in an "A" class (Novice A) you stay in the "A" track, for lack of a better word for it, unless, as Dr. Shelli mentioned, they earn an actual obedience title.

Don't worry about it; it confuses me too. I really wish they had a simpler system.

And to answer your question, no, he didn't touch my hand. He did touch it on the "Halt, Stand, Walk around dog" sign but in Advanced you are allowed to touch the dog, or even position the dog (IE Stack). We are still working on this particular skill and he's about 50/50 on standing without touching me.

I was thinking about the stand as I was trying to get Koji to stand. If I put my hand palm down, it means down. Palm up means sit. Oh no, what hand signal should I give for stand? LOL.

Glad you didn't mind. I get so confused with A/B and all that stuff. I know with Miko and Koji most of it is A all the way. But see, if I do Koji in Rally, am I now B all the way through, even if I didn't get an RA/RE (I'm assuming it's RE, lol) on Miko?

Why do I think about these things? Koji is so crazy. Not sure if he'd ever do Rally. Maybe when he's 12 I'll do Rally. lol.

Yep obedience because well you can't be in Rally Advanced unless you have your RN.:wink2:

You would be in Novice B Rally with Koji. You can only be in Novice A once in your lifetime. But you can be in Novice A in obedience until you get your first CD. As long as Koji doesn't have an obedience title(BN,CD, CDX, UD) you would be in Advanced A until you get your title. Same with Excellent.

Thanks. I get it now. :) Watch, by the time I can do Rally with Koji, I'll be posting again.

Now Sheri, remember all this for when you start with CJ. ;) Or when Glen does.
