Tully is not good

I'm in a quandry and looking for ideas. I'd say Tully only has about 5% vision now. This is making moving around very difficult.

1. The dogs can go into the cat enclosure to toilet, it is covered in fake grass and mats over decorative bark and with small garden beds around the edge, I had to cover it all up because the cats were using it as litter trays. The fake grass confuses Tully and she has a lot of trouble finding her way around. She can get out the dog door and usually down the ramp but not back up and inside. I put rough coir mats down for her to follow but she's not using them. How do set something up for Tully without limiting access for the cats and Kis/Della (also need to make sure she doesn't fall off the ramp again).

2. What to do about the other two ruffians knocking Tully around? Tully needs to stay mobile and she likes to potter around the house sometimes, the ruffians need to go outside. I need to move freely. Gah, all so hard.

Gorgeous photos of a beautiful girl. I couldn’t agree more about how special our seniors are. Tully is still lovely.

I second Cindy’s suggestion of using an ex pen on the sides of your ramp, or even a gate on either side to close the sides off. Then everyone could still get up and down and it would be safe for Tully.

Caro, I've been out of pocket for a while, and I'm so glad to catch up on Tully! She's absolutely indomitable! Yep, managing an elder when there are young dogs can be tough. I don't know why ours seem to give Penny plenty a space and a respectful, wide berth.

I look at that photo and it makes me just melt. Puppies are cute but there is just something about and elderly dog that makes my heart sing and my eyes well up with tears.
My husband, myself, Minnie and Angus met a 17 year old merle sheltie yesterday on a walk. The old one walked well and seemed healthy, if all of us could be so fortunate! I though of Sandstorm and his decline at 12 1/2, still makes me sad. Angus wanted to play with the senior dog and was snapped at. He backed off and didn't bug him again, good! Feisty old guy!

Tully's joint issues are almost entirely due to being on steroids. Mind you, she will still walk the block if I let her, it's just really slow. People are always commenting on how well Tully looks for her age and how well she moves, but she always puts on a great show of bravado when other people and dogs are around. It makes me sad that Tully would probably have lived a much longer and healthier life if not for me getting cancer and her (and Deska) living with my mother for that year. I feel so guilty because I instinctively knew my mother couldnt be trusted. I imagine Tully would have been knocking around at 18yrs but for the meds, her heart is great. Deska on the other hand lived fast and died young.
