Tully's hip replacement

Oh I remember you mentioning the roos when we took a walk near your place! Herding roos should be an Aussie dog sport!

What did the physio say about her limp?

The physio thinks Tully may be 'hitching' her leg because she only has 10% (backward) extension. Hopefully that's all it is. Off to Sydney tomorrow for xrays so we'll see for sure if it's all still in place.

I hope it all goes well in Sydney and you get a good report re the x ray. Thinking of you and your little girl :smile2:

Thanks. Quick update - I'm exhausted from the long trip (and the darn GPS that decided to take me via the Black Stump (aka the outback)).

Good news - The hip looks firm, no loosening, no signs of any problems with the prosthesis at all -yay! So she's allowed more freedom around the house, no more being locked up, she can get on the couch and bed and play with the cats (not other dogs though).

Bad news is she isn't walking properly. It may be the medial shoulder instability worsening, or it could just be the wasted back leg muscles and poor backwards extension. So she's on leash walks for another month to build up the muscles more and stop her over-stressing the shoulders. Building up to 45min twice a day, plus she can have some restricted off leash time (ie, no chase things).

Anyway this will be fun. Deska can only do 20min so not sure how I'll manage it now we're in winter and the days are shorter. Might be time to make that bush-kart for pushing Deska, anyone mechanically minded out there?

So glad to hear all is good with the prosthesis and Tully's got her couch, bed and cats back! Hopefully you notice an improvement to the other problem when the muscle starts building up. Sorry, not mechanically-minded (understatement!) but we got a contraption from a bike shop earlier in the year that converts from a dog trailer to a dog pram (called a K9 Carrier)... doesn't have the coolness of a bush kart though!

The physio didn't want to push it until the specialist gave things the okay. She did mention getting her back on the stability disc and working up to therabands. Our next appointment is Saturday so I'll have to get a list of things to do at home over the next month or two. Tully's treatment has really stretched the hip pocket and I need some medical and dental work so now it's my turn.
