Tully's hip replacement

After exhausting the vet services here we headed back to Sydney this week to see the ortho surgeon. After lots of x-rays and hip manipulation all he could say was the hip joint looks great and her flexion is fine. So he sent us away with a new NSAIDs and no answers.

I was just paying the exorbitant fee when he raced out saying he had an idea. Took her back in, he pushed her sacrum and whoa, she tried to bite him! So finally I have a diagnosis.

Caro, good that the hip is healing fine, but now you and poor Tully are facing another battle...but at least you have some idea of what is going on. I am so sorry...it is hard to see a little dog we love in constant pain. I hope the meds will help until you can afford to do the MRI and get a firm dx on exactly what is wrong with the sacrum and therefore how to treat.

I'm glad the vet finally figured out what the issue is, but I'm sorry it's not more positive. :( I hope Tully's hip feels better!

We're in week 2 of the new treatment. Her first week of rest with no meds and she was happy to stay in the stroller. Then the 2nd week on the NSAIDs she kept running away from me and I had to tie her into the stroller so she wouldn't jump out. So it was definitely making her feel better. Unfortunately the NSAIDs are making Tully sick so I've taken her off them and today we walked around the local oval and I had to carry her back the last bit. So all the rest and the physio hasn't helped.

I am sure she has a pinched nerve - when she does certain things she turns around quickly to bite her leg, like something has bitten her. Don't suppose anyone else has experience with a pinched nerve?

Caro, have you tried Robaxin (methocarbamol) which is a muscle relaxant?
My Mickey continues to routinely hurt his spine (inflammation which pinches nerves) with sudden movements (Mickey is a total spaz who twirls and jumps constantly)...when this happens he is put on one week of Robaxin along with Metacam. Both seem to get him better really fast although unfortunately they do nothing to keep from repeat injuries. Might be worth checking with your vet about using these.

So sorry Tully is still in pain.
