Turning dogs out of a curved tunnel

I also think that sometimes we blame ourselves when a dog pulls out of a tunnel...but I don't think that's fair. If I put my dog on the a-frame and rear cross, they shouldn't turn back around and come back towards me.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen (it happens a lot!!!), but my expectation is that if my dog thinks I'm asking them to go through a tunnel, they should complete the tunnel.

But of course every dog has a different commitment point, like you mentioned, Cheryl. It's a skill that your dog should learn (if you say their name in a tunnel, they should complete it and turn and find you).

Good point on them finishing the obstacle. That's one thing I know I failed to teach, that's why I need to babysit his weaves. Trying to break that with my DW training though. Also, I was very surprised that Koji pulled out. I mean, I may have stopped, but he was already in the tunnel. I should find the video. I was like, "what are you doing? get back in". LOL.

I found it. I want everyone to enjoy my bad handling. You can see Koji come back out at about 23 seconds. Do not be like us. ;)

Nice video! I think the problem was that you slammed on the brakes. You didn't decelerate to indicate a turn coming out of the tunnel, but basically just stopped moving forward all at once. Not that Koji should have gotten out of the tunnel regardless, but I can see why he did.

I know switch is used in NADAC a lot down here. Versus your typical left/right commands. And for someone like me (directionally challenged), I definitely need one word to mean go the other direction. lol

Surprisingly, in AKC here, I rarely hear turn or switch. I tend to hear left/right a lot more.

I use turn. But I can't tell my left from my right. Ask my friends they will tell you.

I guess I forgot to add what I would do. I would do the RC before the tunnel with Lexi. I would do the FC before the tunnel with Bentley.
