Yesterday I took Justice, Ember and Diva to our local UKC agility show. I have been involved in UKC for years starting there in obedience and I always like to support the local clubs.

UKC is quite different for than venues, it has different equipment ie a swing bridge and a swing plank, pause box, 9 poles, weird jumps platform jump and a small A frame. The jump heights are lower and the focus is on proper execution rather than speed(no penalty but not the focus). The dogs need to go on the contacts straight or they lose points, your can't break the planes on the equipment with your hands, no lead or contacts that look like recalls pulus some others.

Justice and Ember are veterans and had prior experience and DIva was brand new to the venue. We did run thoughs on Fri and Diva and Ember were not impressed with the swing bridge and swing plank. But I got them over it and thought what the heck just have fun. I had no expectations for Justice as he hasn't done agility forever and this was just a way to play.

Well I ended up being quite pleased.

Justice Q in the first trial and got his first UACHX leg and 1st place. He barely missed Q in trial 2 but popped the last pole but I thought it was a much better run. The best part was Justice had a blast! He smoozed with all his old UKC buddies , hung out on the chairs and was back in his world. It was so heartwarming to see the old man enjoying himself so much. Definitely will do this again for him:smile2:

Ember was Ember. I got some pretty good happy effort and some surly what the heck effort but over all I was happy with her. She q'd in AGI in both trials and got 2 2nds places and her AGI titles and she also Q'd in AGII 2 times for her AGII title and got a 1st and a 2nd place. She even got HIT veteran for AGII trial 2 which was a pleasant susprise. :smile2:

Diva did awesome. I was alittle worried about her in this venue but I just let her run her game and didn't worry to much about the silly rules. She Q'd in both trials in AGI for her first 2 legs and got 1st in both and Q in both trials in AGII for her first 2 legs and got a 1st and a 3rd(went on the bridge crooked). She got HIT for Trial 1 in AGII.

SO it was an awesome day.

Diva talks to me when I mess up(most of her on course yapping), sometimes single barks like Wheee! and always when the ride is done Lets go again!. She is a hoot.

Really neat to watch! I wish I knew more about the swing bridge, it's hard to picture. Do the dogs just have to run across it?

I really love seeing Justice out there with you. He's still got it! :biggrin2:

The Swing bridge is 2 low rising wood planks the bridge is a series of 2in planks held together by 2 ropes across the gap. The bridge moves up and down and slightly side to side similar to something you might see at a playground for kids. LOTS of movement. The dogs need to hit the upside with one foot the bridge with 1 foot and the downside with one foot to do it right. They can easily bail off the side.

Here is a page were you can see some pictures of it and the swing plank which is a board hung at the corners by chains. The dogs need to go straight across the plank and not though the sides.

Thank goodness they got rid of that crawl tunnel the dumbest piece of equipment known to man!

Pictures are half way down the page
