Undercoat rakes.

I went over Abbie the other day with the rake (no clue what kind it is...) and it was amazing! I just line brushed her. So cool. It really helps for the blowing coat. I don't really think I would use it other than to remove undercoat.

I have a Furminator which I used for a while, but not so much anymore. I find it takes too long to use because I'm really careful about not using it on the guard hairs.

Then I found a rake that I had lying around (while I was packing for my move), and I use it all time now.

Rake, pin line brushing, slicker brush in that order....sometimes 2 or 3 times if I've found a particularly "lush" patch of undercoat.

I got one through Petedge- Master Grooming Tools is the brand- came with several heads that you can change out- different spacing between the teeth in each head. plus I have a couple of plain rakes from the pet stores :wink2:

I think the majority of Smudge's shedding/blowing coat is finished. The rake did manage to get some of the loose fur out of his puffy ruff where the other brushes did not.

Smudge has never really had a great deal of fur. He looks so naked and flat. :biggrin2:

You know I keep looking at Deska without undercoat and see Smudge smiling back at me!

I do not quite a few shelties who never really grew an undercoat so have short, flat fur (and they were breeder bought too). Guess like height its just luck of the draw. Mind you, I used to wish Mr D had less coat - I will never wish that again.

Smudge is still young yet. Remember that some of our more experienced folk on the forum say that if often takes up to 3-4 years for the full coat to grow in.
