Yay! Blaze is back home. Unfortunately they had to shave his little ruff and legs for the catheter IV. (His legs look like puffy poodle's ones.) The technician said that it had to be done for the blood tests and all and it will grow back.
He's stable enough to recover at home and he has enough medicines to choke a horse. Most are only a week to fourteen days in duration but the Keppra was recommended for a minimum of six months. (The hospital records show that he had one seizure in addition to his breathing problem so he was put on it even though a neurology consult shows everything normal--even the bile acids. Oh well...have no idea why one seizure with everything else being normal equals Keppra. Will someone please talk me down from my crazy tree and tell me everything will be okay? And yes, I've already notified the breeder--she cares.)
Like I said, the tests show nothing major but that he's weak with an elevated white count and mild anemia. (Couldn't prove it by me--until the day I brought him in he was running the length of our yard--or should I say bouncing, fighting grass and dandelions, chasing his tail--then suddenly he wasn't and THE SAME DAY I sought help for him. I just don't know what caused his problem but am so glad that he's on the mend. Loaded up with antibiotics for the lung issue and even taking the same diuretic medicine my husband took when he had water on the lungs but he's off the oxygen and is stable.
Well, that was the latest installment in little Blaze's saga. At least he's home and the medicine should make him well.
