Update on Dixie

I know it's been a very long time since I've posted regularly, and I've missed you all! I wanted to let you know the most recent update on Dixie. Most of you may remember but to those of you who don't, I was forced to temporarily rehome my sweet baby girl with a family friend because of a city bylaw that says I can't have more than 4 dogs and 4 cats in the city limits. I would have ignored that law (didn't know about it before I had 5), but my neighbors turned us in. Now I've made the unbelievably difficult decision to let Dixie's temporary home be her permanent. John (my friend) has become VERY attached to her. His wife, JoAnn, who was my dearest closest friend, passed away in late April this year. He has two other dogs and one of them, Gizmo, will be one his way to rainbow bridge soon. It just doesn't seem right for me to take away his baby girl. Dix loves him just as much as she loves me, and she's happy and loved dearly. Maybe one day we'll be together again forever. But until that time, I couldn't ask for a better home for her. She'll always be my baby girl, I'd do anything for her happiness.

It's so good to see you back, Tabitha. I know making the decision about Dixie was very hard, but it sounds like you did the right thing for her and a very generous thing for your friend. How could you possibly take Dixie away after his loss? It must have been a difficult time for all of you.

I hope all is well with you and your pups!

Tab, so good to have you back posting. I know you miss your Dixie, but your decision to let her stay with someone who needs comfort in his life is a truly kind hearted decision on your part. He is lucky to have such a caring friend as you. :hugs

I really admire you for making such a selfless decision. It would have been difficult. It must be a comfort knowing Dixie is so happy and well loved where she is.

I admire you for making what has to have been an extremely difficult decision. Dixie will always be your baby and you know she will have a wonderful home with your friend. Hugs

Tabitha, you are so very open-hearted and generous. You've put others before yourself -- I nominate you for Sheltie Mom of the Year!!! :hugs

Tabitha, I think it is a wonderful thing to let her live with him. Back in the day, I had 2 Aussies and 5 cats (cats were a Brady Bunch situation with us marrying while I had 3 and he had 2). One Aussie was a bit tough on the cats and the cats had to learn how to handle her (but they did). My lovely black persian grand champion just fell through the cracks. He was a timid little guy who loved with all this heart and he wasn't as bold as my others. I made the decision to let him live out his years with my father-in-law and his 2nd wife. She doted on him, he loved her, he loved her daughter who lived next door and the grandkids. His remaining years were peaceful and gentle and I still got to see him. When it was his time, the wife couldn't handle the passing so he passed in my arms instead knowing full well he was really a loved little kitty. I am sure Dixie is happy, you will get to visit, and you will always be there for her should she need you. Most of all, you are comforting someone who is grieving the loss of his dear wife. Proud of you girlfriend.

You've taken a hard decision but it magnifies the generosity of doing something so generous.

you have a great heart. It's great to have people like this in the forum :smile2:

Thank you all so much. It really helps knowing I have the support of so many friends like you.:hugs
