Used Sheltie Fur, Anyone?

The birds at my house are sleeping in extra cushy nests this year, thanks to Sheltie shedding season. I can't fill this feeder fast enough...they empty it in a day! Fortunately, we have lots of supply! Fur Feeder.JPG

That is such a good idea. Since I turned my back porch into a cat run the birds can't get onto the back porch to take the fur. So they peck through the cat net to get the wads of fur that seem to collect at the edges. Poor cats, it sends one into a frenzy and the scaredy one under a cushion. Giving the birds a fur dispenser would be a great solution..

When possible I groom the dogs out back and let the hair fly. The birds love the stuff and the rest gets composted when DH mows the lawn. It is so much easier than trying to keep it off furniture, floor and appliances when it flies as I'm grooming indoors.

WOW, What a great creative idea! I am going to follow your lead!
With three shelties, I will have no problem keeping it filled.
Where did you get the container?

That's brilliant, Ann! And such an elegant holder for that lovely nesting material.

In November, you'll have to see if you find any abandoned nests lined with familiar fur!

It's actually a bird peanut feeder that I bought on Amazon a few years ago. The wire is too wide to hold anything (even peanuts!) but it's perfect for this. You could also use a suet feeder or any mesh bird feeder.
