I have 1 lab that dug his way to china,all around his kennel in his younger years,one very bad habit,but with persistance of the poop..it worked.

We have since used it here on fence lines for Trapp.Dang he would just dig & dig.Well with scooping poop,and putting in all the holes,he has not even bothered to retry to dig in those spots,let alone new ones.
I guess mommy took the fun out of it,and he got bored!:wink2:

ill try it out. I hope it works. I dont want to burry poop for no reason :lol:
 
we always in the home garden with Che so he has no chance to dig. He is allowed to dig when we go camping. He likes sandboxes and we play games of "catch me" there- he starts digging and I pretend to catch him...

that is so cute. we let bella dig when we camp also and working towards that being her outlet, we are heading out tomorrow as a matter of fact.

Oh boy, Ginny would think she found GOLD! We've been having problems with Ginny digging, but she's also a poop eater.

As recommended by our trainer, we recently purchased some dog repellant. Its these tiny little pellets that you spread on the areas where they dig. It doesn't smell very good so it stops them from digging. I noticed that it smelled a bit strong at first (but really not too bad) but the smell was gone within 24 hours. After putting it on her favorite dig spots, I watched Ginny investigate all of my flower beds, searching for a place I missed. Its been 3 days and so far no digging.

The trainer also told us that digging is a natural thing for a dog and that it may be a good thing to give them a designated place to dig. We have some dirt behind our garage that I saw her checking out. Even though I really don't want her to, I'm thinking of letting her dig there, since it seems to be something she's compelled to do.
 
I love her heart so cute. Zak helped me dig the other day but has not dug since then. I bet she was one happy little puppy digging her way to China.
 
Vash is a bit of a digger himself. He likes to go up to tree bases and begin to dig.

I've been catching him in the act and telling him no but he always tries to do it again later. And if I'm not watching him...well I put his playpen outside while I was doing some yard work one day and he would dig and then lay on top of the hole every time I walked by so I wouldn't notice. Then once he got excited at me walking by and stood up, at which point I saw the hole he was digging and moved his playpen so that he'd have to start all over again to escape.

Some of the info I've read says if you have a digger try to give them their own little spot in the yard where it's safe to dig. Hide some toys or a bone or something in a little "sand box" filled with gardening soil or the like and reward them for digging there and not in the rest of the yard. I haven't tried this myself, I was going to find mittens to put on his paws "Try to dig all you like, but your not going anywhere with those mittens on mister!".
 
Both my forever pup Timber, and Bacca both dug as puppies, but they seemed to grow out of it fairly quickly.

Digging is not normally a Sheltie thing (leave it to the Terriers!).
 
Toby tried to dig Cement one time! there is a small crack on a sidewalk near our walking path, and there are some wood chips or sticks or SOMETHING and he tries to dig anything he can out of there, and even chews on the cement, lol.

Today he was digging our large pebbles with dirt under it, very easy to manage because we were right there, but my dad let him have a little fun first
