Vinca's First AKC Agility Trial - October 1st.

I keep thinging of all the things I need to bring. Most importantly her ILP paperwork and Michelle's junior handler certificate.

Make a list! I have a list of standard items that have to go to an agility trial. One of the MOST IMPORTANT things on my list is my clipboard. I have one similar to this, http://www.staples.com/OIC-Slim-Clipboard-Storage-Case/product_569264?cmArea=SEARCH, and all my important papers are in there - jump height cards for different venues, rule books for different venues, heck, sometimes even issues of Clean Run to read.

More importantly, it gives me something to attach my course maps to so I can work out my initial approach with pencil and eraser. (The actual approach to the course is subject to change once I actually see and walk the course.)

But, with something like this, you can put all the important papers inside the clipboard so you know you have them with you.

What about the height cards? Do I print them out, or do they give them to me there?

The AKC trials I've been to had the Jump Height Measuring forms there for you to fill out. They are a carbonless two copy form - a white and a yellow. You get to keep the yellow as a temporary jump height card and the VMO gets the white. DO NOT throw the yellow out after the trial - its your proof you've had a measurement done. You'll have to fill out a second form at your next trial for her second measurement.

I'm sure you are having the wonderful mix of emotions - excitement and nerves combined.

Good luck this weekend!

I was so glad I had people who knew what they were doing guide me around.

The great thing about this event is my daughter's instructor is in the same class as her. So the instructor is going to walk her around the course and go over all her switches with her. This is such a great thing for her to have the instructor there the day of the event and in the same class. And...we have several friends that will be there as well. I am a bag of nerves...my daughter is pretty confident. She has been taking private lessons with Vinca for two years now. She is very ready. She has done DOCNA trials but never AKC.

Wow! This is a great tip. Thanks so much. I really appreciate this. I am going to pick one up today. I am one of those people that if I do not have everything organized and in order, I am all out of sorts. This is a great organizational tool. Thanks!

which classes have they entered (jww, standard, fast)?

Thanks!

They are entered in JWW Nov P. We are running her Preferred because she is just over the 14" and she has trouble jumping the 16" jumps. So, we want her to do the 12". Vinca is special, lol.

They are only doing one course for their first time. Oh....those weaves :eek2:

Vinca is pretty consistent and loves it so I am hoping she will do well. She is just S-L-O-W. Such a different worker than Chloe who rips up the course (but is currently off agility until her leg is better).

Yay! All signed up.

I would email the trial secretary and ask about later measuring times. I know the whopping 3 AKC trials I've been to, you can get measured between events or class changes.

i.e. I typically get measured between Excellent and Open. That way, I don't have to get there so early.

Ooh, I'd love to come and cheer you on (and Freehold's really close)! But I'll be out-of-state all weekend.

Best of luck to you and Vinca - I'll be thinking of you!
