Vomiting

I'm surprised too that your vet didn't inform you. Our vet didn't recommend this vaccine since (a) shelties are sensitive to it, and (b) it's only about 60% effective. We do Lyme/Heartworm tests on each of them yearly and do specific Lyme tests on any (like my Bentley) that have a positive result. We got Bentley from a rescue the year before we got him tested so not sure how long he had Lyme. Vet started antibiotics right away for a month and then retested him twice over the next 9 months. His numbers came way down.
 
Thank you all for responding with such informative information!! Unfortunately the vet never mentioned anything prior to her vaccine. Her 1st dose she was just lethargic, but this time was clearly major!!! If it were a choice, I'm 50/50 on her vaccine next year only because I do have deer roaming through my property. I want the best for Roxie, especially preventative care, however with reactions I've witnessed and now all of your help, I'm lost in what to do LOL. :confused2: :o I will def do research and consult my vet and breeder as well. I appreciate all of your feedback, and so does Roxie too!!! :smile2:
 
My concern was just that if a dog reacts to somethings it might react to others and I would personally want to know whatever I could for that particular dog. I personally don't give Lyme shots. We have deer on our property as well and I am concerned about ticks for both the dogs and us.
I don't give Lepto shots either. I was fortunate enough to have a friend in terriers that was a professor of neurology and pathology at the U of G veterinary college that warned me not to give Lepto shots to my terriers as he had seen so many reactions. When one dog did end up with Lepto back in 2007 it turned out that the strain was not covered by the vaccine. The attending vet at the university said she doesn't give the vaccine either as her German Shepherd nearly died after receiving it.
I guess, in the end, it becomes a personal decision. I know that if this were my own dog I wouldn't give the Lyme shot to it but I would change to something like Advantix for that particular dog.
Sure glad that all is okay now.

This is what I do. Both my Shelties still got Lyme after being vaccinated years ago, and I never got the shot again. My current vet doesn't recommend it. I'm told it's not even that effective. My show dogs get K9 Advantix in the flea/tick months and everyone gets the vinegar spray in between. We've only seen two ticks all year on that regimen, and we have tons of deer and live in Lyme country!
 
Hartley had a reaction nto the Lymes as well, I personally did not do the 2nd vaccine and he will never get it again. I didn't do the Lepto either even though my vet tried to talk me into it.

I also have Deer and all kinds of wildlife roaming through my neighborhood.
 
I didn't do lyme vx either and dear ole Sally got lyme disease...no sympyoms at all, no limping, lethargy, nothing. I just happened to have her distemper/parvo titered and had a heartworm test done. It's a combo test that tests for tick borne diseases and it came back positive...the vets at work said they "told me so". Had a QC6 test done to check the level of infection and it came back in the highest range :cry:. She took the Doxy and seems fine. Never know for sure about the vx preventing or not, we have had some dogs at the practice get the vx and then get lyme disease. I still don't know how i feel about the lyme vx, but I wish Sally didn't get it.
