Wait... what? Puppy?

I rationalize in my mind that getting a "new" sheltie is sort of an homage to those wonderful furballs we lived with before-- to give for our brief moment a good and love filled life to another generation-- It is not about forgetting or replacing, for me it is about continuing to love the breed and the individuals with whom I share this earth. All my past dogs still fill my heart and memories, what wonderful additions they were to my life.

I've got a slide show running on my Echo show, which of course has tons of dog pics...I teared up over a Koko pic the other day--so I hear ya!

Then Dofus Aurelius (Benny) came in to see what the sniffling was about, or to see if there was food, (could have been either!) did something silly, and got me chuckling.

The great thing about dogs is that they live in the moment and altho we are not wired quite that way I think they teach us that the greatest joy comes from moments.. we re blessed/cursed with strong memories and we have the curse of knowing consequences but we too should spend more time in the moments. I love my shelties for insisting that I spend time with them in the moment. It still surprised me that wolves became man kinds best friend...somehow but I am glad they did.

Well said, I couldn't agree more. There was a quote somewhere that said people are too busy rehashing the past or rehearsing the future instead of being in the present.

To me, this is the best thing about being a dog. To them, every day is Christmas Day. I try hard to live in the day. Nothing I can do about yesterday or tomorrow. It is a great feeling when it happens.
