Wait... what? Puppy?

Juno update! She just turned 16 weeks old, is now about 14 inches, so poor Meadow, she's quickly catching up to her in size. Her body is lengthening as well. I am very happy to say this last week she has turned the corner on her housebreaking. No accidents at all, going out every hour rather than half hour, will pee on command. And definitely her bladder is just able to hold more. So that has been less stress. She started beginning Nosework; I thought she was far too young but my instructor was starting a new beginner's class which she rarely does and she thought it would be good for Juno. Well she took to it immediately and is unfazed about crashing through cardboard boxes to find the food. The instructor, who has trained Brooke, Faith, Eli and Meadow was very impressed.

This pup has a lot of drive. Thankfully, she also has an off switch. Wicked smart too. We had a small Sheltie dinner party last night at a friend's house and my Sheltie friends were all saying how great she is. Her ears are so light that they drift up if she tilts her head at all. I think I'm going to glue the tips down now to help keep them down.

Do people ask you if it’s mom and pup? They look so much alike, I’m sure many would assume they’re related!
I used to get that with Piper and Finnie all the time, which considering they were 2 males would always make me laugh!

Well, the universe has a funny way of speaking to us, doesn't it? In our lives with Shelties we've had several unexpected arrivals. Faith was one. We were offered the gift of her a bare month after our Asta's sudden departure and it took a *ahem* leap of faith to say yes to her. But of course, best decision ever.

Fast forward to now, a bare month after her departure, we were nudged by Faith's breeder into looking at two AOC litters that her friend in Oregon had. Agony, again. Are we ready? Is it too soon?

But a little blue merle girl's photo spoke to me immediately. There were beautiful Tris and blues, but as much as I love black Shelties, it was too much of a reminder/comparison to Faith. So, texts, calls, Facetime, and videos later, we had our chosen girl. She is going to be big, which is great. We've never had a blue, so it's a fresh start. Of course then the dilemma, how do we get her down to southern California given distance and horrible storms lately? Well, the breeder's daughters are driving down to San Diego to return to college and we are meeting them tomorrow about an hour and a half drive away.

Puppy girl is described as very sweet, independent, loves dogs large and small and kitties. Respectful, but persistent in initiating play. Not a dominant dog which was the only requirement. Born Oct 4, Faith was born Oct 6.

Still working on names; need to meet her first. Our heads are spinning a bit but the way everything just fell into place seems meant to be. Here's the real kicker. The breeder wants a gambler's theme for the registered names for this litter. What are the odds? Faith's litter was also a gambler's theme, and her name was Lucky Dice. Gave me goosebumps, and the real feeling that Faith has sent her to us.

Sharon, I know Faith will always hold that special place in your heart, but your wee puppy is absolutely adorable and will help you focus on a new beginning. I am so happy for you!!!
